I think my next bike is going to be a Triumph Daytona 675. I like the way it looks, it's done well in the magazines, and I want to try something different. So I've been lurking in the Daytona 675 forums for a while. Yesterday someone posted a comment that they called their bike "the Harley Davidson of sport bikes". I couldn't just let that go, so I registered and posted "I believe Buell is the Harley Davidson of sport bikes" to which I've gotten two pretty negative replies.

So WTF is up with other brands and their owners being negative about Buell? Can't we all just get along?

Not in a brand specific forum - no.

Yeah, I guess we do our fair share of rice bashing around here. Maybe bringing up Buell wasn't a smart first post on the Daytona 675 forums, huh? I can't help it though - I drank the Buell-ade a long time ago...

Ok, I politely asked them to clarify and one guy mentioned that Triumph has been around a long time, and it's not your typical Japanese sport bike. So in that regard, they're a lot like HD. I guess that's a good analogy.

I also admitted to them that it was probably not smart for me to post about Buell in a Triumph forum, (thanks for pointing that out Dave) and that I've been drinking the Buell Koolade so long that when someone overlooks the brand, it ruffles my feathers. I think we're good now.

My buddy had a 675.When up in the mountains last year I traded him my Uly for about 1/2 hour.He is 5'5".He had a hard time when he stopped, but was grinning the whole time riding.I loved his brakes & engine power, but my wrists & back were shot in that short ride. That Triumph was a great bike, but too small for me(I'm 6'3".If it fit me I would still have to change bars & risers to ease up on the wrists & back.It really was fun though.

I always thought of ducati as the harley davidson of sportbikes. They sell a lifestyle as much as harley does imo.

If there EVER were to be a prayer in Sportbikedom, it would be "Please (insert deity here) - prevent mankind from EVER repeating the VR1000 EVER AGAIN!!"

Thankfully Buell is NOT Harley Davidson!

I would have to agree that Ducati is the Harley Dividson of sport bikes.

Lifestyle and all.

Why feel bad if your right. Triumph isn't a Harley, but a Buell is. And a Buells are considered sportbikes. So you were right.

I rode an 1125r at Daytona saturday for the first time. I came away thinking that has to be the perfect sport bike.

Harley "managed" it into the trashbin. They couldn't get out of their own way. It STARTED with some VERY REAL potential as an AMA Superbike - but finished as a moto-historical curiosity...

...ahhhh, but what it COULDA been!

Anyone know why that VR1000 has a sticker saying "DO NOT X-RAY"?

It's in the pic of the black left side of the race bike.

"DO NOT X-RAY" means that the ECU is not rad-hardened and if the bike were to be exposed to potentially harmful radiation, like X-rays or even a laser speed gun, the idle would immediately become smooth and performance would revert to that of a Honda Cub... which may account for its lackluster racetrack performance.

"Yeah, I guess we do our fair share of rice bashing around here"

Triumphs are NOT Japanese! Made in England. My brother had a 1964 500cc Triumph which I loved but he had lots of problems with the valves so he traded it for a Suzuki 250 X6 Hustler. When I purchased my 1998 Buell M2 Cyclone my choice was down to that and a new 1998 Triumph 900cc but the local dealer didn't have a new one in stock and I would have had to wait another week or two so I went went the Buell. I sure glad I did because I love my Buell motorcycles! I still miss my M2 Cyclone so that is why I'm never going to trade my Ulysses away!

I opted for the 2000 t-bird in late 99 and here I sit with a Buell and never happier Cyclonedon so no worries. I like them all I just seem to fit the buell the best I have never been late to belly up though no matter what I was riding so to each his own

I know Triumphs are not Japanese. I just meant that we like to bash other brands, and usually it's the ricers that get our attention. I guess Brit bikes just don't come up as the subject of brand bashing because most of them are small like Buell. It's those kawayamahondazukis that are evil...

Hey good folks- personally I think the VR1000 was one of the coolest bikes ever built. It's a shame that H-D doesn't understand how to blend and evolve branding.

Hey all you Photoshop geeks, can you do me a favor? Work up an 1125R with the orange/black paint with the centerline white stripe, matching wheels, proper decals, reverent to the venerable VR. I'd like to envision a new eye candy.

I don't think Buell is Harley. Buell is Buell, it just has Harley blood in it. Buell is Harley's kid, they're related but they're not the same. Harley is the big daddy of motorcycles, and kids like to be rebellious and do things different. "Different in every sense"

That's the way I see it.

+1

History is written buy the victors.

Dammit, can'tcha make it for MBVI?

I'm budgeting to have breakfast at the TWO lodge, mebbe 2 days.

I will be preparing most of my meals campside.

If we are smart about setting camp and then getting grub from Dalhonega, this trip can be fairly economical.

YA MO BE DERE
