...are you running on your injected Twin Cam 88, and why?

are you totally satisfied with the results?

any hard-earned advice to offer someone wanting to let their totally stock '06 Road King breathe a little easier??

thx,

Well on my 96" Twin Cam I went with the SE air cleaner and Vance & Hines Oval Slip ons for my '07 Ultra to breath better. Also purchased a SERT tuner and just recently got a chance to use it when I changed out the air and exhaust. I do not know what the stock horsepower and torque were on the Dyno before I put on the slip-ons and air setup.

After installing the parts I loaded a base SERT map for the SE air/reace exhaust then took it down to my Dealer's Dyno guy. Red the Dyno guy did his magic and my torque went from 77.90 to 81.27 and HP went from 66.40 to 71.69. Also the bike was running a little rough with the base map. After the tweaking by Red the Dyno guy it was smooth running. Plus he tweaked the map so that when I am cruising I still get my MPG's but when I crack the throttle it has a lot more get up and go. I am extremely happy with how my easier breathing mods turned out.

A good Dyno guy is essential. There are some other trains of thoughts with Power commanders, V&H fuel packs and other devices, these add fuel after the ECM and be tough to get right. I feel getting it on a Dyno and getting the map "right" on the ECM is the way. the trouble is finding a Dyno guy you trust and can do the job. I hang out on the V-twin forums and did a lot of research. There were some horror stories of bad Dyno's but the majority where positive. Same with the alternative devices, some had no problems others it was nightmare.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me and I can always give you my phone number and we can chat. I am no expert by any means just did a lot of research and reading that might be of benefit.

'00 RK

I have run a Thunderheader (bent tabs), Power Commander and the SE breather since bike was new. Ran great. Upgraded to 95" and SE 203 cams after 25000 miles. Same set up but retuned by Doug Morrow (Carl's Sped Shop). Runs a bit stronger two up than it used to run @88" one up.

88" 72hp/76tq
95" 86hp/96tq

I like this set up and if I had another bike I would do it again. Some people think T'header is too loud and others don't like the asymmetric look. I like both and also like its performance.

Hi Jerry,

As much as I was glad to see my RK go, I have nothing but good things to say about my PC-III-USB. If I get another fuelie HD it will be one of the first things I get. It was extremely easy to install and use. If I remember right, on ebay (new) it was about 1/3 the cost of the SERT.

Once you plug in a laptop and change things around, you will never want to see another jet as long as you live. Another nice thing about it is the ease with which you can go from one map to another. If you find something that works really well but you want to mess with it, it takes about 2 minutes to put it right back.

Have you heard the True Duals? It's a much nicer sound to my ears than the stock system with cans.

Good luck with your bike. It sounds like a nice solid machine.

After swearing off BTs, I am thinking it is only a matter of time before one ends up back in my garage.

I can't believe how cheap late model Superglides are going for right now... and old shovels... and Ironhead Sportsters...

This site is IMO the best for info on HD big twins.

thx for your comments, guys (including the fellow that PM'd me), much appreciated.

after several months of research, i've finally opted to go with the custom-baffled Rush muffler/custom-mapped Power Commmander PCIII/K&N RK3909 air filter package that Jamie at FuelMoto offers, $749 delivered to my door.

the package is taylored specifically to my bike, and if it all works as advertised it neatly avoids the hassle and expense of finding a good local dyno tuner, as Jamie's already done all the homework, and gives me an efficient, torquey, cool-running and amiable motorcycle with a respectable V-twin rumble.

one of the features i like about this package is that it retains the stock headpipes, thus maintaining the scavenging effects of what essentially is a two-into-one exhaust system.

i've no prior experience with the Rush muffler brand, but i've read a lot of good things about them, and i like the fact they sponsor pro-stock Buell racer Angelle Sampey.

i should see everything via the brown truck later this week, and will post pix and impressions as i go along.

thx again for everyone's feedback.

Did the big brown truck drop off the package yet?

yep, everything installed and tested to the tune of 1150 miles this past weekend for Spidey and Lisa's wedding up in Detroit, very happy with the overall results so far.

more details to come.

Very cool and happy to hear. I was crossing my fingers for you since I had such bad luck. It would be cool to get it dynoed at some point to see exactly how well the prepackaged combo works. If it's running well and the plugs look good, then it would just be something interesting to know, not something really needed. How has your fuel economy been?

Bill -

dyno numbers would certainly be interesting, but i don't need them to know the bike is happy.

one of the reasons i went with this package is that the PCIII is mapped specifically for my bike and the exact air filter assembly (K&N) and mufflers (Rush) i'm running.

looking back thru my gas receipts from the weekend, i logged the miles from four fill-ups (the other stops i either didn't get a receipt or didn't log the mileage).

the four mpg calculations are 41, 42, 42.7 and 33.6, for an average of 39.8.

discounting the 33.6 number (not sure why so low), the average is 41.9, which ain't too shabby for such a big bike, big engine, and riding at 80-mph-plus two-up with fully-loaded saddlebags and a stuffed size L Ortlieb Drybag hanging out on the back.

the bike has a nice, mellow rumble, very pleasing, not overly loud, but definitely authoritative, and the engine performance is vastly improved at all RPM ranges, much more willing and easy going, nothing radical, but quite noticeable and satisfying.

also (and this is admittedly a subjective opinion), the bike seems to be running a bit cooler now. being "too" hot has never been an issue for my RK, but my guts (and my pants) are telling me that the more generous fuel mixture has cooled down the combustion process somewhat.

so far i'm quite pleased overall. there were a few minor issues with the install, nothing serious, which i'll try to report on as soon as i can find the time to grab some photos and put some words together.

i'm VERY happy with the quality of the Rush mufflers, much more so than i thought i'd be.

for the price of the package ($749 delivered), the fact that i could install everything myself without having to pay someone else's labor fees, and the fact i didn't have to then take the time away from work to try to find a competent dyno operator to "fine tune" the system, i think it's a screamin' deal.
