Every time I go to start the Glide-a-Bego, the battery is dead. What's up with that?

What Ferris said.

How often between starts?

How old is the battery?

If you want to get some helpful data for evaluating the the battery, give it a nice overnight low rate (1-2 Amp) charge. Then measure the voltage with a VOM and let it set for a day and check the voltage again. The voltage drop will tell you something.

Other options are to isolate the battery from the bike and repeat the above test to see if something on the bike is killing it or if it is just not holding a charge any more.

Bad ground? Check the connection. My brother's bike had some corrosion around where the ground connects, keeping it from charging right.

good advice, Rich. that's actually American Sport Bike Al Lighton's first rule of electrical gremlin diagnostics: all issues are ground issues until proven otherwise.

You guys are the best. Truely good folks.

I was making another crappy attempt at humor. My bad.
The reason is because I always ride the Buell and the dresser just sits there, neglected, till it's dead.
I hope no one gets pissed at this. I will try to refrain from any lame assed attempts at humor in the future. Thank you all for trying to offer genuine help and thanks to the boss for this new board page.
Dan.

Panhead_dan,

Keep the humor, just use the emoticons to help. This one would have worked well following your post:

Went to start my bagger last week sometime, battery was dead too. Had a bugger of time even finding where the battery was. Finally found it without the use of the service manual, it was hiding. Took off the left side cover, no battery there. Took off the seat, no battery there. Took off the rear side luggage bags, no battery there. Finally looked under a right side cover after I removed the rear bag, there's the danged battery. I was beginning to think the bike didn't have a battery somehow.

I did find thru this process where some fuses are hiding though, so that's a good thing I guess. Would have been a bear tracking them down on the side of a dark roadway.

Keep the humor, just sprinkle in the occasional emoticon along the way

More good advice. Thank you.
Humor is difficult for me to accomplish on a forum such as this. It all too often looses something due to the format. Emoticons would help, I'm sure, but posting in the morning before work is usually a quicky thing due to time constraints and my dialup connection limits me as far as emoticons and or pics etc.
Thanks again all. I really will try to not to be like this in the future. (fingers crossed behind back)

You could just do like Bomber did and type in {grin} or {wink} and not mess with the pic smileys ;). Same effect, quicker to do, easier too, especially early in the morning when the fingers still don't know how to spell yet (I think I hit the backspace as much as the other keys on this post, everything was mistyped) : O

Hey--where is Bomber anyway? Hanging out on some Triumph site? I kinda miss the old Q-tip...

Says he is afraid of all of us now that he rides a Triumph, but he hopes to work up the courage to post once his Cyclone is spitting fire again. : )
