I ordered this kit from Summit Racing today for Glitch and myself.
Trench...
Just wondering if we should paint b4 spraying on the silicon coating? |

Sorry Stealth, I didn't use silicone spray... I guess the silicone spray is there to seal the wrap. If that's all it's doing, I'd just paint them. If, after you've painted them and the paint has set properly you are not confident the high temp paint has sealed the wrap, then spray them. That would be my approach, since I don't think the paint would stick well to the silicone, it's tipically slipery.
But you have to note. You need to let the tape naturally dry after you've wet it down and applied it. Took more than 24 hours to dry on my bike. You then want to set the tape with hot runs. You then want to paint. And paint. And paint.
Here's the Aero's. They are designed to be used with all available silencers that use the OEM headers... Separate collector... Spring assembled. Basically everything we've been asking for in an aftermarket header.
As soon as I have my grubby little mits on them, I'll get them ceramic coated black and will report back on the condition of said un-wrapped stock headers. |

Well I didn't wait till they dried, whoops. Lots of steam coming off them at first but they seem fine now. When you painted them trench did you do it with the headers on the bike? Just paper and tape everything off? They actually have a nice color to them after drying them out by riding!

Where did you get those mirrors? Do you like them? Do you have any close up pictures of them? Will they work with stock XBS bars?

Mirrors are Dual Star items. They are us based and there was a link posted in one of the articles on my site. They are really cheap, designed for dirt bikes and are just bar mount versions of teh bar end mirrors Bads is using.
It's actually pretty easy to use the spray pack 'too close' to teh header tape, since the tape absorbs the paint, you don't have to worry about runs. The first time I was really pedantic about the paper and masking tape, but after I worked with it for a bit I realised you don't really need the paper and it just kinda gets in the way. Oh, and do it when the bike is dirty and any little bit of overspray just cleans right off. You'd never know mine was done on the bike, and plenty have looked. |

When painting stuff that is still on the bike, I like to use tape and aluminum foil to protect the areas I do not intend to spray. |

just curious...is there any special way to cut the wraps (and with what)when you get to the end of a header? will the wrap fray after being cut?

I wish you guys would start these great threads in the Quick Board, us tubers would really like to see some of this stuff and sometimes I forget to look in here. Wrapping my headers will be the next thing I do to the M2. |

Glitch- For the same amount of money you can get your headers ceramic coated. Cost me 90$ from jet-hot. Looks great. Just another option. Very nice blue color too if thats what you are looking for.

The ceramic coating helps with that...extra insulation to keep the exhaust gasses hotter and moving faster - the idea of both the wraps or the coating is to keep the heat in. |

Yeah, I know they both have the same idea of keeping the heat in.
But the wrapped headers work better as far as keeping the heat off me. |

I have a cerami-coated Force header and it's WORLDS better for keeping heat out of the frame and keeping the heat off my inner thigh at a stop light. Go with the ceramic coating  . |
