I have a d&d exhaust.I talked to owner of d&d he told me that my bike (05 xb12s) would run better without race ecm or intake mods.It does run great but am I leaving some cheap power on the table. Thanks for your input.

Ask him for some dyno charts to back up his claim.

I wonder why the owner told you that? I have a D&D and the race ecm. I ran without the race ECM for a while with just a K&N filter, desnorkle and modified cover. It ran reeeeeeaaaal lean during that time.(popping on deceleration and heating up) After I installed the race ECM it cleared it all up and the top end is to die for.

Hey Navygunner did you have to take it in the shop to get that Race ECM Programmed? I have read different things about that, and I am planning to do the same thing to my XB12R in a couple weeks. How does that D&D pipe sound?

You don't need to get it programmed per say but you do need to get the TPS rezeroed. The sound is incredible. Like a really souped up sportster. D&D has an a/v clip of a XB12s on there sight. It doesn't do it justice.

I have a D&D with the Race ECM and you should have it in.Without your bike will run lean and really pop and crackle in decel.

How much did it cost to get that thing zeroed out? I know they charge by the hour, so I guess I am asking how long does it take?

hey Bamabiker,

My tuner told me the race ecm is unnecessary, but, along with your airbox mods you will want (need) either a techlusion or a Power Commander. I opted for the Power commander and my dyno stats are posted on another D&D topic just recently, though i forget the name.

I dont have air box mods yet but if i add k&n and ecm will i get more power or is it a waste of money.

I have no dyno information for my application but my butt dyno tells me yes. The race ECM also allows you to completely remove the servo motor for the interactive exhaust without tripping codes. I'm also looking in on adding the Dobeck TFI in the future provided they make one for the race ECM. As of now they do not recommend it for the race ECM but I have talked to people that have and swear by it. If you do stay with the factory ECM, leave the servo connected or you will get a trouble code. You can do a search in the knowledge vault for a bypass that will stop the codes from appearing its not difficult to do if you stay with the factory ECM.

I will probably mod my airbox this weekend - it looks like rain. I have the Race ECM, K&N, and D&D pipe - LOVE the sound!

BadS1,

My tuner is Chris Revus (spelling?) @ Harley Davidson of Fresno. He explained to me that the gains from the race ecm are so minimal if any that i would be better served to take the $200.00 and use it on gas or beer. Though he did say that a Power Commander or a Techlusion would be needed ( I opted for the Power commander) and that I should Port the airbox to open up the lungs of the beast.

My biggest gains were in the midrange and they are phenominal compared to stock. Not only on paper but on launch out of every corner. Also roll on wheelies, if not careful and smooth on the throttle, come all to easy. Ill try and scan into comp and post my dyno results.

Sounds like your bike runs just like mine but I didn't have to do the power commander or techlusion. So I have plenty of gas and in my case Soda.

Just rode mine for the first time. XB9R, stock ECM, tfi, K&N, D&D. With the tfi at the standard settings the bike is running OK. Love the new power and sound!! Going to tune it this week, and hopefully Dyno tune after that.

JEEBUS!!!! What a pain in the it is to download pics.

Sorry for the low res this is all the site will except!?!

RED=STOCK BLUE=MODIFIED Peak hp went from 94.0 to 90.8 @6700rpm but its from 3700 to 6000 rpm that is most impressive as this is the sweet spot for this motor. Peak torque went from 76 ft. lbs. @ 5950rpm to 83 ft. lbs @4400 rpm!

Torque readings are in 5 ft. lb. increments
H.P. is in 10hp increments.
Mods.: D&D Exh; Power Commander; K&N Airfilter; Ported Airbox; Stock ECM.

For a dyno tune ive heard as low as $200 to as high as $395, dyno runs with no tuning are $60 give or take a few bucks. All the work and accessories were part of my purchase price of the bike. I just waited til i put on a 1000 miles of break in b4 i had work done.

Remember though those are the going rates for my neck of the woods.

I have the whole Race Kit from Harley, and mine pops pretty good on decel also. I also put a modified 12 air box cover on it, and it did not change that aspect. I thought that was normal also.
