Hello all, I have and XB9R with factory race kit installed. Sometimes off the line the bike will sort of miss , kind of stutter and then go. It used to be just off the line while rolling on the throttle. I was told and have read on this board that this is not unheard of. O/k, so now it's doing the same thing while cruising, if I'm riding steadily at say 3000 rpm and roll on or maybe downshift, blip and go it sort of pops out the intake (some kind of air noise). This only happens once in a while but it can't be good. Also, my bike has 4600 km's and I just decided to change plugs, my front plug had a light brownish deposit on it and the rear was white, not fuzzy just clean. Does any of this add up to anyone?? Intake leak or something ignition related??

Was the TPS reset when you had the race ECM installed? Sounds like your TPS zero may be off a bit. Might be worth having that checked/reset.

Check for intake leak by holding the bike at a fast idle, around 2K rpm or so, and spraying contact cleaner or WD40 all around each of the three intake manifold seals, especially the ones at the cylinder heads. A leak will usually be indicated by a significant change in engine speed, usually a drop in engine speed, but sometimes the opposite.

Good luck.

An intake manifold leak usually shows up under light load (climbing a shallow hill) and low throttle (high vacuum condition) as a hesitation or "missing".

Plugs *can* be hard to read due to additives in gasoline.

Is it possible you damaged one of the plug wires?

Plugs sound fairly normal to me but if anything the rear white one would be the one indicating a leaner and/or hotter running condition.
