Ok, I don't advocate racing on the street, but this guy was getting on my nerves.

He kept trying to impress me by giving it full throttle while in front of me. Well, we turned onto a nice long stretch of a road and he gunned it. I figured it was time to tame him. Gave it 3/4 throttle and I stayed on his rear up to about 60mph when he let off. Funny thing was at the next stop light on a 4 lane road he wouldn't look over at me.

I hear ya cataract. It's def. not safe to play on the street but I like putting cagers in their place now and then too. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to think a fancy little stock cage (with sweet exhaust of course) is gonna take a bike off the line or even from moderate pace? A simple downshift and twist of the throttle and I'm history. Heh. I'm not saying a bike will always win but hot shots like that 'stang always seem to back off early when you let them know whats up. My F4i with slight mods was an incredibly angry little bee. I'm new to the XB world so I can't wait for spring to see how the twin treats me.

I had an S2000 pull up next to me on the freeway trying to get me to run, I waved go to him and let him get ahead and then I waved to him as I blew by him around a buck twenty! At the firs stop after the freeway ended he gave me the thumbs up. Dumb cagers.

New, you gotta give him props for being cool about it and giving you the thumbs up.

Type, gotta agree. I don't street race unless someone really pushes me to the point where I just have to put them in their place. Ricers tend to be the worse, but it's always fun when they have their girl in the car...

I had that happen with a Porsche 911. The guy cut in front of me on a roundabout (he should have given way) and then tried to outrun me. This road had three roundabouts the last one folloed by a tunnel.

I know the road well and after every roundabout he tried harder and started to shift back. After the last roundabout I blasted passed him, WOT through the tunnel (WOT, Drummer, Tunnel, you get the picture). At the traffic light he deliberately looked the other way. I honked to give him a thumbs up but even that he ignored. I was cracking up.

Have been on both sides of this escapade! Most times, blow the cage out of the water, but in my super cooper s, have been known to go around a rice rocket or two!

I have that happen quite often, in Northern Michigan, with guys in their trucks. Apparently, a truck with a roll bar, lift kit, push bar, 25 million fog lights and loud exhaust makes for a super fast cage(insert sarcasm here). I can't waste my time any more with all the Rednecks up here trying to prove something. Maybe they're confusing my American Motorcycle with a rice burner. You know the "Good Ol' Boys" have a slight problem with non-American vehicles.

Hey, I feel better now. Thanks for letting me vent. Man, this board can be a part-time Psychologist.

It's even more fun to tell them it's a Harley lump. The look on some of their faces is priceless.

I like pulling up the front tire and riding it past the cagers after the lights turn green. They either roll down their windows to say sweet, or they won't even look your direction at the next light. Be safe all.

Not long after I got my first bike( a Blast, slightly modded) I was waiting at a light when a kid in a 5.0 pulls up next to me and revs his car looking at me( what is it about Mustangs?). When the light turned green, I did my normal start. After a bit, I looked back to find him about a third of a mile behind me. He was really quiet at the next light. Silly boy.

I don't like street racing either, but some of those punks need a lesson in humility.

The Buell does a nice job, but...

when they get their as$ handed to them by a Miata, it really shuts them up, quick.(turbo, baby)

The best is when you are touring with a tent and bags on the back of your bike and you meet up with a bunch of novice crotch rocket riders. This happened to me when I was riding my CBR through Virginia Beach on my way home from a trip to NOrth Carolina. Yes, I was also on a crotch rocket, but I even had a tool belt and framing hammer strapped onto the bike. Everyone looked at me as if I was a joke. I rode with them for about half an hour through the twisties, got bored, and throttled to the front of the pack. I kept going and nobody stayed with me. That made me feel pretty special. Of course, it was only a month or so later that an old man toasted me up and over a mountain pass. I don't know what he was riding, but I suspect that it was from the 70's and the engine was about half as big as my CBR600. It all comes down to the rider and there is always someone out there who can make the best of us look silly.

Well, where I am at, I get challenged by the Harley riders. The Sportster guys (and I have a Sportster too) put on the Screamin' Eagle A/C, rejet, put on the mufflers, and think they have a ticket to fly. Anyway, I am always challenged by them. I also have a friend with a Big Twin and a 116 incher...I tell him if he really wants speed, get a performance bike like the Buell. I keep telling him I just have a little 60 cubic incher, ha ha!

The guys usually fly by me...try to get a jump on me, but I twist the grip then wave at them as I sail by.

BTW, I also have a Mustang...a restomod '65 with a 289 and a 5 Speed conversion. The first four gears are close ration and the 5th cog is an overdrive. Really love it, but I know better than to challenge a bike...fun, fun, fun though!

Catorac, Yes I think he just wanted to hear and see the bike run, There were a lot of overpasses in the area and the buell with a race pipe echos a lot. I dont mind a friendly challenge but if someone is being an A$% I tell them it is not worth wasting my gas to make them look like a fool. That gets em real hot.

Like being the fastest gun in the West, there's always someone quicker. Fortunately there is also usually somebody slower!
I was once at a track day where a guy who had only ridden for 6 months was going round the outside of sportsbikes on an old Kwak 500 twin complete with top box and mileage tyres. We reckoned he didn't crash because he didn't know how to!

To prove the "it's the rider" theory. I was on some back roads and had a guy pass me on a brand new yellow GoldWing. Followed him for about three milesas he was really gettin down in some curves, i mean floorboard scrapping, tail pipe leaving sparks as he hit the bumps, low. I didn't want to be behin him so I passed. Got up to about 115-120 passing him and throttled back slowly, sharp sharp curves ahead. Went through them touching about 60, come to the straight only about a 1/8 mile to a stop sign, look in the mirror and all I can see are those hawkin big head lights about to suck me through the intake!! Got to the stop sign and he ask how I liked the Buell, then proceeds to tell me he used to race them!! Ron Meyers was his name if I had to guess I would say mid to late 50's and a whole garage full of race bikes!! Struck up a nice conversation, hope to go riding w/ him soon. That will humble you a bit!!

We have a lot of rice cagers in Milwaukee. I love it when they start winding up at a light with there little teeny bopper girls. Of course I don't let that stand. After I dust them, with my wife on back. They aren't so hot at the next light. I've even seen a few of their girls laughing at them!!! gotta love it.

I got a good one this weekend coming back from StuntWars. Me and my buddy were coming home at a good clip and we pull up next to a brand new '05 Mustang. Pretty much the same car as I want to get, only this one was white. I slowed down a bit to check the color difference between the white Buell and the Mustang. He must have taken this as a challenge as he goosed the throttle and jumped a little bit ahead. Well I haven't had much opportunity to really open up the 1050 yet and decided this might be a good time to try it out. I laid down on the tank and opened up the throttle about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way and just blasted by him. When I looked down at the speedo I was doing well in excess of the 70mph posted speed limit. I think he felt bad as he ducked off on the very next exit, quite abruptly. That new Mustang might be fast, but it's still not as fast as my Buell.

I got smoked one time in Malibu canyon by two guys in street legal cars that looked like giant go-karts. Single seat in the middle of the car, race car wheels and tires, LOW stance, nasty sounding mid-engine V-8s. They were riding my and I just pulled over. No point.

On the flip side, I went to school with a guy with a modified 'vette that was pretty fast. He was clueless enough to think he'd beat a fast bike. I wheelied away from him on my ZX9.

Just after I got out of high school a buddy of mine started a project that to this day is the stuff of legend. He purchased an Oldsmobile Cutlass Diesel. He called me over and over the course of a few weeks, we'd pulled the engine, transmission and rear end .. Then out came the gas tank.

The hulk sat in his garage (he shared the rented house with two other buddies of mine who were pissed at the seemingly permanent intrusion).. Then came the 'install'.. Leaving it stock on the outside he installed a 500 big block, (yes, balanced and blue printed) A TH350 (over built by a local speed shop) a 12 bolt rear and the fuel tank (having had it cleaned and cleared of the old fuel.

Why did I tell you all about that? Well, imagine driving up on one of these little skippies in their early rice-racers, before there was all the high tech (this is in the eighties after all)supe up parts.. And standing on it.. !! That thing was a monster, it would break the rear free while cruising at 60mph on the highway and we'd scream (both the car and the passengers) all the to the peg on the speedo and beyond..

It was scary.. But it was never as fast as my Suzuki GS-850G.. Simple laws of physics. Yes, I know if he'd had the room, he'd have been able to out top end me with that rig.. But never in the spaces that were usually available to us..

Now, what ever happened to that monster in old ladies clothing? I'll have to drop him a line and find out...

Later,

I haven't had many challenges on the bike, but the import guys were always trying to prove their "superiority" almost every time I would take my '66 Coronet out for a spin. It was a 440 hardtop with a "mild" '70 440 six pak engine, TF, and reasonable street gears, 3.55's. It looked the vintage super stocker part, rolling on Centerlines with BFG Drag Radials on the back barking through 3" Flowmaster Hemi's with no tail pipes. It was a solid high 12 sec car through the muffs.

The usual deal was a backward hat would roll up at a light I'd get the rev-limiter challenge. Ignore. Next light, Rev-limiter, still act like I was ignoring him but when the light would go green..............flash the converter, the Dodge would jump up on the snubber and off into the sun-set leaving said "boiey" in a cloud of spent carbon. Most of the time the mere act of the car raising on the suspension nearly a foot usually had them out of the gas immediately.

Now I could also go on about how rednecks in S-10's like the look of Dakota taillights........
