Friday I painted my new frame pucks and put them on my CityX. I read and followed all the instructions. I wiped the pucks down with rubbing alcohol first. I sprayed a bunch light coats instead of a few heavy ones.
After letting them dry sufficiently I put them on the bike.
Saturday I ride to the Harley shop for coffee and bullshi+. I get off the bike, look down at my pucks and see a big chunk of paint is missing from them. The paint, in fact, comes off with very little effort.
What did I do wrong?

Bob

I would rough them up a bit with a scotch brite pad and then do a couple coats of rattle can primer first. Then paint them.

PS
You should be able to do this without taking them off the bike again.
Just mask around it real good and then cover up anything you don't want overspray on.

Use a primer that is ment for rubber/urethane that is self etching also. Or Krylon Fusion Primer.

OK, thanks. I figure I'ma rough them up plenty getting the old paint off and Krylon sound like the way to go. =)

Speaking on paint, sorry to change, anyone know where I can get some ceramic paint? Thought about painting the underside of the airbox base. Think that would heat dissipate? Saw it on the MSN XB9 group.

I just recently painted mine with Buell Graphite Gray frame paint (thanks, Daves!), to match my XB12S. So far, no signs of failure. In fact, it flexes ever so slightly when pressed. I didn't sand or rough mine, but did use alcohol to clean them.

What paint did you use?

I used the graphite gray on mine too.
The front corners of mine are chipping.
Although they receive a lot of abuse (miles and weather) it was a mistake not primering them.

Had the same thing happen to me - chipping all that paint off is a lot easier if you have an air compressor. Don't try abrasives or chemicals, they will ruin the pucks. Just knead the puck with something metallic and start chipping away with a small flat head screw driver or similar.
