I almost have my header removed on my bike. I was originally thinking of getting the sterling silver ceramic coating but I think I prefer the black finish more. My only concern is the difficulty in keeping the black finish clean. If you get an oil spot or something else on the header I heard you can't clean it off without leaving a stain. Because our header is so exposed on our bikes should we go with the sterling silver coat over the black. If anyone has had any experience with the black finish please let me know

That is a very good point. I also would like to know if anyone else has had a problem.

I can tell you. It's very hard to keep clean, and starts to turn white as time goes on. I tried to wax it per the instructions and it did not help. Eventually I sold the bike that the pipe was on. My suggestion is to try to clean it with hot soapy water and keep the pipe out of direct sunlight over a long period of time.

Just curious, but could that be because you live in Hawaii? I live in OH and the sun isn't to intense up here, none the less I will heed your words. Thanks for the heads up.

I had the black done. Don't waste your money. No different than a coat of high temp paint in my opinion. The silver stuff is impressive though, if that is the look you are going for.

One more comment, I didn't have any issues with keeping the Jet Hot black headers clean. I'm wondering if salt air played a part in Tatsu's case.

I would say the salt air had a big part in my headers turning dull white.

Blake,
Did you talk to jet-hot? Would they re-coat them for you or is it just not even worth it? How long did the black coating last for?

I never talked to jet-hot folks..as I sold the bike. It also never bothered me enough to think about it.

I know people have said to go through the back way behind the fan but I suggest against this. It's really much much easier to drop the engine a inch or two and just remove the header that way. I tried the first way and found it to be a pain in the , so I have dropped the engine to put it back on, much better.

I took my header off from the back, but that was a really big pain and it took a while. When I go to re-install it, i will drop the engine.

Caleb (Lpd22),

I never had any complaints about the Jet Hot finish quality. My disappointment was that teh expensive coating didn't do anything to reduce the heat coming off the header pipes, which was the primary reason that I had them Jet Hot coated. Had I just wanted them painted black, I would have done that myself.

I can imagine though that the silver coating might help with the heat issue. The silver shouldn't be a good radiator as is the black. That could make a big difference.

I like the wrapped headers more and more.
Take a look at Trenchtractor's headers.
Looks good and works as well.

Looks extra nice if you ask me.

Blake,
Thanks for the info. I am really just going for the look more than anything. What I want is to resemble the pipes on the x1w's. Thanks for answering my question about how they look over time, I appreciate it.

If i was going to go for more power and reduce the heat I would probably go with the pipe that Duff24 has and have it coated in the silver or just wrap it.
