I read a rumour on another board, that there will be a new Buell engine released this summer...anyone else? Or is that hogwash?

Oh Wow...That would be a nice rumor to see materialize.

Sure would be nice if it would retrofit to the XB's and Tubers.

Still Dreamin' after all these years.

I think I heard that rumor last year...

Believe it when you see it. It'll happen, but no sense in getting all hyped up about it.

Hopefully it will be something that we can retrofit like 4-valve heads, overhead cams, shorter stroke, dual bodied injection, etc but with the same basic engine and cases.

Any further information on the rumor? I've kept seeing rumor of an XB6R, which would really fill the gap between the Blast and the 9's.

Along the line with new bikes and rumors, I am hesitant about getting anything newer than the 2005 year model, due to increased emission standards. I am thinking our dear government agencies (state and national) will finally crack down and say any modifications beyond stock is prohibited (actually is prohibited now anyway)...emissions must meet or exceed standards for year built (like the cars). As most of you probably know, motorcycles in the U.S. have tighter emission laws for years 2006 and 2010.

Any thoughts are feedback on that?

i looked on HDnet and i did not see anything about new bikes or a new motor. and as for XB6R/S that would just be a waist.

Tighter emissions laws are probably more likely to push HD for a new engine than anything else. My understanding is that large air cooled engines are pretty tough to run clean. Changes in running temperatures result in tolerance inconsistencies when the engine changes temperatures, ie. piston/cylinder clearance.

Spatten...my thoughts too...hence the VRod/StreetRod and its future incarnations. According to what I have read, catalytic converters are in the future. Some of the Japanese bikes already have them. I am thinking when they get to the cats, that is when we will be more hampered with exhaust changes...tailpipe testing just like the cars, etc.

I don't like what I envision down the road. Get your bikes now and keep them a long time!

I was talking to Don Tilley a couple of months ago and asked him if he knew anything about what Buell was up to regarding performance, engines etc. He said that Buell is working on double throttle valves as we speak and said that Buell had a prototype bike in the lab that was cranking out 150hp on the dyno!

Buell sales in North Carolina has fell flat due to insurance cost. Here in NC if one is under 30 years old, the insurance prems are very high to the order of over $1000+ per year with a good driving record.

Since everyone is screaming more hp...hp...hp that Buell is going to have to satisfy our cravings for hp. We'll see something farly soon.

You guys haven't kept up on the smog stuff. According to Buell the XB type engine is BETTER suited to meeting smog restrictions. Current XB meets Cali 2008 as is and Cali 2008 meets or exceeds Fed 2010 from what I hear. All the water cools are having to increase the cat size to make up for how dirty they are during warm up which is a big thing now. The XB is supposed to sail through all this with little change while most the rest of the M/C world will see big changes.

Air cooled bikes do fine in the emissions tests, they will be around for a long time in the US.

The tampering rule crackdown would have been more likely if the other guy had won the Presidency. He did not so it will take a lot longer for that to happen.

The main thing aircooled bike manufacturers bikes have to watch out for are the drive by noise rules. But nobody in the US has proposed revising them yet so the 80 db limit will remain.

Europe is another matter.

I had wondered why we havn't had smog check on M/Cs in Cali and was told it's too hard to get to everything on the non naked bikes. Smog check stations have to be able to make money. When the bike makers have to produce all their bikes with 5 min or less access to all components (or full fairings are outlawed) smog checks of M/Cs will start out here.

I was also told the original sound tests were designed with Harley in mind. The M/C was to pass in front of the microphone from left to right which caught the traditional noisey right side of Harleys. Supposed to be the main reason for the original push to belt drive. Note on the XB that the intake is on the left, exhaust on the left, frame and close scoop cover the rockers on the right and pushrod tubes are plastic. Might be bunk but it sure has made me wonder.

I love my Buell, I dont believe any rumors but I do know for a fact that there is a motor at buell that is putting out 150hp but the problem is that they can't keep it running long yet. Also, 2 new XB models this summer.

150 Ponies lead me to believe the Erik & Company are getting serious about winning races against real bikes.

REAL SERIOUS, at last.

Do you guys think that an engine with that much power would bring a new chassis with it? The XB might be a great handling bike but it is still short. Longer wheelbase perhaps?

I'll just wait for July to come around when they're released. Till then there's no point in getting bent out of shape over it.

Course, a 150hp Buell would be in garage if it came to light.

Hmmm, I like what I am reading...both about emissions and rumored bikes. I might get something beyond a 2005 model after all

Wonder how much more expensive the new models will be? Guess we will have to wait and see!

Yes it did, the winter Buell blues again.
As Wycked & Cataract point out the only interest a wise man would have in production rumors is just for the entertainment value.

Would it make any sense if I said I would like to see Buell have the flexibility to adapt to the market and in doing so, bringing back Tube Frames may be a good thing.

Naaa, I didn't think anyone would agree. LOL

"im pissed off at my bike its to damn slow for me"

I'm a race fan to the core. I've heard a LOT of people say just after a race "The car is not fast enough for me." There's one thing ALL of those drivers had in common... They had never won a championship. They always blame it on the car.

I did emissions certification for Kawasaki for a few years. MCs get a break because they are very low production and miles traveled compared to cages. Motorcycles put out much more pollution per mile traveled than large cars and light trucks. An increase in standards still lets them run relatively dirty.

As for performance, although we fear tighter emissions standards, we generally get more powerful vehicles anyway. Catalyzers have not really been restrictive since the 80s, so we don't need to worry about that. They do add weight and expense (rare metals like platinum and rhodium).
Buell uses a very primitive engine control system (fouling spark plugs is ridiculous) that would probably add power if it were as sophisticated as what cars have. Unfortunately it might cost a bit more too.

I got a tire changed at a Honda shop- they came out and told me my front cylinder wasn't firing. #@#$$%%!!!!
I can't blame them for cracking the throttle at startup.
