Hi guys,
I just took delivery of a Buell stage 1 kit for my '03 XB9S. At the same time I also ordered a Jardine exhaust so I installed the ECM, K&N filter and the Jardine. When I started the bike it ran like sheet! When I would give it gas at first the RPM's would climb but then they would go back down like I had let off the throttle even though I was holding it open. I immediately suspected the ECM so I put the stock one back on and the bike runs fine. I tried looking the part # up on the Buell website but the part # of the ECM I have isn't one of the ones listed. The one I got is part # 32801-02Y
Does anyone know if this ECM *should* work on my bike or do I need to send it back? That might be complicated since I bought it as a kit, so returning just one of the parts in a 3 part kit might be a problem, though I guess I can send them the Buell Stage 1 exhaust too. ;o)
Thanks in advance for the help.
Keep your knees in the breeze!

Yes. That is one of the earlier race ECM's according to several other posts on the site. It is the same one I have on my bike along with my Jardine.

Can't find the number of mine. But, when you install the race kit you do need a TPS reset to be done to your bike.

Did you have the dealer reset your TPS?

Reset my TPS??
Shoot, I had no clue. I have the factory service manual on CD, I'll guess I'll look up how to do that. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys!
I just rode the bike around town with the stock ECM and it pops and cracks a lot on decel, I guess this is to be expected since it's now running pretty lean. I'm glad to hear the ECU is the right one, I'll figure out the TPS stuff.

Unless you have a Digital Technician or the aftermarket tool available from Dave (can't remember the name and too lazy to look it up) The dealer is the ONLY one that can reset the TPS for you. If you look at the intruction sheet for the Race ECM it tells you that you will have to have the Throttle Position Sensor Re-calibrated.

Instructions?? Who reads the freaking instructions??
It's plug and play! (or so I thought!)
Yeah I found out in my Factory Service Manual that the only way to calibrate the TPS is with a Harley DIGITAL TECHNICIAN. -sigh-
I guess I'll run over to my local dealer on monday and see if they can knock it out really quick. Thanks!
