Well I took the plunge. I took my white bodywork and dyed it black. Well, at least I used black dye, and lots of it. Anyhow, it isn't black, or even dark smoke. It's plum color. I think it looks pretty good, but I haven't put the bodywork back on the bike yet. I'll try to post some pics after the plastics are back on. Has anyone else tried this with different results? | ||

That's because black dye typically isn't black. While most clothing tends to look black, take a look at towels and such at your local department store. It's more like a super dark navy blue much of the time. I've seen Rit dye tend to come out that same way when dying clothing. While I can't say this would work for sure, you could try mixing various other dark colors of dye with the black. That may give you a super black. You may also have to let that soak a lot longer and make sure you get hot water added back in on a regular basis. Personally, I took the easy, more expensive route and just purchased all XB12R plastic for my XB9. |
