I moved to Philly three years ago, and have mostly met cruiser riders since I've been here. Probably because I'm middle aged and live in the burbs. Nothing against cruisers, I just get bored quickly riding in a straight line and in traffic.
Do any of you do any not-too-nuts sport riding in the southeastern PA area?

Hey Scott- I also live in the Philly area. I live in southern Chester county, and I work at Boeing right by the airport. We'll have to do some riding once the weather becomes a little more agreeable. -Ron

i haven't lived down there for a while (bout 5 yrs) but there's a Harley dealer out by Valley Forge just off 422 on 363(Trooper Rd)...around the time I was leaving they were expanding a lot and started to get Buells in. I don't know how "good" a dealer they are when it comes to Buell, but it may be worth checking them out for rides, local BRAG etc.

if I remember correctly, there was a woman in charge named Jackie

Scott, I live in Delaware County near Ridley State Park. I have two friends that ride 9/12S's that live in the West Chester area.

Maybe we can set something up for the warmer weather.
It would be nice to meet some other Buell riders in the area.

I live just 4 miles from the H-D dealership that lpowel02 mentioned. I ride 40 miles to get my Buell taken care of.

From what I've found, the farther North or West you go, the better the roads get, both in terms of curves and traffic.

They're so convenient, I really wish they were enthusiastic about Buells...

Anyway, you moved out of the area at about the same time I moved in, and I think you'd be amazed at how much the area has changed. There's now all kinds of shopping at Trooper & Egypt, including a Wally World and Home Depot. There's a new retirement community, and they're building a new hotel, too. In any case, if you head down for a ride once the weather gets better, I bet you'll be amazed at the difference!

Evadave- Just curious - did you have a bad experience at this dealership? I have been in there to look around and they have always seemed pretty good ( not a ton of Buells I agree). I thought of getting a bike there.

Is it the service or the sales?

Thanks

We've just started a new BRAG chapter out of Williams HD in Lebanon, NJ. That's in Hunterdon County near Flemington and Clinton. Our paperwork was submitted to the national BRAG folks in the end of December and we are waiting for approval. Our name will be "Hunterdon Thunder" if approved. Robxb is the chairman & I am the vice-chair. We are looking to build the organization, All BRAG members are welcome to join!

Wsplrll,
I can't say I've had a *bad* experience there, but I've had several lukewarm/chilly experiences:
- I called up one October to make the 1K service appointment for my Blast, and the earliest they could do it was mid-December, so I made an appointment. I took the bike in, and it was still a few days before they could "get to it." Granted, I wasn't riding a whole lot, but an appointment's an appointment.
- At open houses and stuff, I've gone over and checked the place out. Once I start looking at the Buells, I might as well be invisible.
- "I'm sorry, we don't *do* demo rides." Except, apparently, during the Buell sling bag promotion.
- Not a lot of Buell stuff in the store. And I'm only saying "not a lot" because I haven't seen any, but I keep thinking it's there somewhere.

Now for the positives:
- Every time I've needed a quart of oil, they've had it in stock. (I haven't needed it since I switched to Mobil-1, though.)
- They had a front tire for the Blast in stock when I needed it one Fall, and mounted & balanced it on the wheel I brought in while I waited. It only took about 10 minutes.
- They were quite happy to let me take an XB12S for a demo ride during the sling bag promotion. The only trouble was that it took them over an hour to prep the bike because it wouldn't start. They even changed the spark plugs. The bike had maybe 2 miles on it--I'm guessing it was bad gas, 'cause even when it started, it didn't run right.
- Free lunch on Sundays. : )

They don't sell a lot of Buells, that's for sure. I've seen the same white XB9R with USAF-style graphics every time I've been there. I think a lot of it has to do with the way they run their sales operation. They pay on salary, not commission, so the salespeople have little incentive to push anything. And they sell the bikes at MSRP, even though they're not moving off the floor.

So, there's nothing damning, but they're not really enthusiastic about Buells, in my experience.

-Dave

I hear you. I am probably getting an 04 Blast there - I know they are not pushing the Buell thing. Probably not their bread and butter when they are selling a ton of Harley underwear and Christmas ornaments.

anyway - they treated me decently so far and are close. Where do you go to get more Buell centered attention?

Deans HD up the 309 has a great staff and has a Buell certified mechanic. Many of them are actually knowledgable about other brands and the industry in general, which pleasantly surprised me. They have Buell demos set up most of the time too.

Wsplrll,
I usually run out to Brian's H-D/Buell in Langhorne for service. It's where I bought my XB as well. I got the tip on that dealer from a guy on a Blast-centric Yahoo group who had the dealer install some performance upgrades, and when he had a problem, the dealer stuck by him when the manufacturer wouldn't. I took my Blast there, and was greeted with smiles and open arms. Later, I bought my XB there.

As it turns out, I end up riding right past Dean's H-D/Buell to get to Brian's. I only visited there once, and that was right at closing time, so I didn't get a real good sense for the place. But I did get a positive Buell vibe for the short time I was there.

Two things for you to ponder for the Blast:
- check out the Thumper Forum if you haven't already. Lotsa good info there.
- consider a used Blast. You can get a decent one for about half of the MSRP as new, and there haven't really been any significant upgrades to the bike since '02.

-Dave

Thanks Dave ( and Spatten)

I will check it out. I did get a good price under 4000 out the door for new one. I like having a 2 year warranty as well - since I want to work on it but not too much!

Nice having a new bike too - so I don't mind paying a little extra for that. The bike is pretty reasonable to start.

Wsplrll,
You are welcome! Best of luck with the purchase. The Blast is an aptly-named bike!

Here's another thought. I know you said it's nice having a new bike, but I just remembered this place. Check out www.americanclassicmotors.net. (but be careful--they play sound in the background, so turn the speakers off if you need to.) The place is in Zieglerville, which should be about 15-20 miles from you. On their Buell page, they have a couple Blasts in the low- to mid- $3k range. One's an '04 with ~2000 miles on it. It should have the balance of the factory warranty on it.

Thanks Dave -

I will take a drive over there tomorrow if I get a chance ( only about 5 miles from me. I have been meaning to take a look there anyway.

I also went over to Dean's HD and talked to them a little. Seems like a nice staff and they have some decent specials. So I will have to check them out some more.

I will let you know.

Later.

Hey - I did take a look at the Blasts - One was an '03 for 3600.00 and an '04 w/2000mi but some minor damage from a drop on the seat and frame scraped up a a little for 3300.00

So for 400- 700 bucks more I can get a brand spankin new Blast. I think that is not too bad a deal.

I am still going to stop over there and take a look at some of the cool bikes. After the blizzard probably.
