Well I had the shop put on the XB race kit. Pipe, ECM and reset the TPS. But at the time I did not receive the New air filter. Now that I have it I'm not sure if I should put it on. Will I have to get the TPS reset with the new filter and removing the snorkel? It runs great now. Took a ride yesterday it was 27 out side. Burrrr.
Thanks

BigHarley, I am not an electronic kind of guy, but I don't think the TPS has anything to do with the richness or a lean condition. The TPS signal was sent to the ECM for exactly what it says...to sense the position of the throttle. I am sure you have read about engines idling wildly without control when the TPS has not been set on a new or race ECM...need to get the TPS signal straight to the ECM.

If indeed my thinking is right, you are more likely a little rich right now...not lean. When you put the K&N on it, it will lean it a little more.

Case in point/example...when you leave the stock ECM on the bike and make mods (creating a lean condition, not a TPS problem), you don't recalibrate the TPS (actually send a signal to the ECM), you make it richer by some means, and in our case (Buell owners) most of the time it is with the Techlusion unit.

Also, question to you...how do you like the sound of the race muffler? I have one myself, but I have not put it on yet. I am thinking about getting a Jardine for a better sound. This is very subjective, but I am wondering how you like the sound of the race muffler? I think it is a little quieter than the Jardine.

I hope what I said earlier was correct and helpful. I am sure some of the other Bad Weather Bikers can validate what I said or point you in the right directon...Cyko Bob

No need for TPS reset. Just get the new filter (you will tell a difference)and run it around 3500-4000 rpms for about 10-15min for the ECM to learn it.

Filter should of came with the kit

I just got a K&N, but I'm a bit confused. The surface area on the stocker is probably three times that of the X1 and at least as big as most 3.0 liter car engines. Is it just extremely restrictive? It would have to be a pretty poor choice of filter material to put much restriction at all with that big a filter.

Has anyone changed the filter without making any other mods at all and done a dyno run?
