Ok, slightly annoyed. The oil change was going smoothly until I got the the fairing covering the oil filter. Turns out the dealership on the 1000 mile service managed to put the wrong type of screw in. Not only that but it's in good, so good that the screw head was rounded off. Now, I'm not turning this into a dealer bashing thread only because they are making good on it. The service manager told me to see if I could finish the oil change and if so call on monday and they would schedual me to have them fix it. I do not want this to turn into a bashing thread. I did manage to get the oil filter off and put on the new one. Oh well, could be worse right?

If they owned up to it and are willing to fix the mistake, I don't see why they'd deserve bashing. Everyone makes mistakes but those who try to fix their mistakes are pretty cool. Sounds like a good dealership.

And yes, it could have been worse. Some dealers would have fought tooth & nail to deny it & avoid fixing it at no cost to you.

That's why I mentioned in this that it's not a bashing thread. Just venting frustration on it. I'll keep an update on how it goes. I feel they're going to make it right. They've done good so far. Plus the owners is really cool and he's helping me with getting a Brag group started.

At the end of the day the mechanic who worked on it last must have known he'd done wrong and should have fixed it there and then.

I agree with Norrie. I know you don't want this to turn into a bashing party but come on? The tech knew full and well that he cranked the wrong bolt in there. Sad. Drives me nuts that no one cares anymore... No pride in doing things correctly.

Good they're fixing their mistake but what a hassle.

Well, the only blame I put out here would be on the tech. I'm annoyed yes, I'm not flaming mad due to the dealership manning up and being willing to fix it. I'm not going to sit back and say whatever. I'm of the mind that if they are willing to correct the problem then I'm ok. If they weren't then I would start going up the ladder. Now, if he f***ed up my engine then I'd be really pissed. Now, if this happens again if I have to take it in there for whatever reason, then I'm going to start wanting names. Because then there's someone there who's not doing their job.

Course, this does show the reason why I prefer to do all of my own work.

When I start doing my own work...that's when everything starts breaking. : (

Last time I bled brakes, I ended up having to buy another master cylinder. : )

You'd be amazed at what can happen on a bad day when you're brain is fried & you're swamped with work orders. I don't know what the situation was at the dealership but I know I myself have done some lame brained things in the past. And yes, even I used a wrong screw on my car once. I didn't know till a year or so later when I had to remove the dash again. The point is that these things happen. Don't concentrate on the problem, concentrate on the solution. If the dealer fixes it promptly with no charge that's a pretty good solution. And perhaps the tech will be a little more aware from this experience as well. It could happen.
Maybe I'm an optimist but I refuse to assume every dealership is a stealership.

Wonder how hard it was for them to get the screw IN.

Those TORX head fasteners are easily stripped and fortunately easily replaced with HEX head fasteners. If you like the TORX style be sure to keep a couple of spares at hand so you don't reinstall one with a slightly boogered opening, that's the one that will be stripped next oil change.
How do I know...........................

Metalstorm, exactly!!! That the thinking right there that keeps me from wanting heads to roll. I've done some brain dead things before. For all I know the tech got called away from the bike for a minute or two, got back and picked up the wrong screw and put it in without thinking. Stuff happens. I was told to call them on monday and set up and appointment to get it fixed. The guy I talked to there seems to want to do it personally himself and told me he wouldn't be in monday but to set up everything on monday so when he was in the next day he could get to it. That typo of response puts faith in me with them.
