I am looking for a steering stabilizer for my 2004 XB12R. I really want to get the one that Paul James has on his 04 XB12 (see the picture on page 5 of the Jan./Feb. 2005 issue of Fuell). Can anyone help me find this?

The coolest bikes at the IMS show had dampers on top .
Like this:

damper

Any chance someone is or will manufacture something like this for the XB's?

Very bad reviews on the Hyperpro products from other bike forums - mainly leakage and decline in damping. Also, their customer support isn't quite up to par as well.

The price of the Hyperpro is pretty much the same (migth even be higher than) of the Ohlins. Between the two, I would go Ohlins any day of the week.

The coolest bikes at the IMS had no damper or an electronicly adjusted steering damper...

My hyperpro has no such problems. Also that is what Kosco is using in Formula Extreme. Maybe that was older units without the piggyback design?

Dave thanks for your help. Now I just need to come up with a bracket that will allow me to mount it below the fairing like Paul James has his. I really like the way that looks!

I'd prefer a rotary damper myself.

Ingemar, Are your stripes painted or decals? If Decals where did you get them?

Hey Ingemar I found that photo of Paul James for you. If you go to sliderphoto.com and click on "find rider", enter 247 then go to the second to last site listed which is private track time July 28, 2004 and the picture is #347866. There are a ton of pictures on this website that show Paul James and his Buell Firebolt.

Thanks! I can't see it very clearly, but isn't that the same one I have, mounted under the steering head?

Yes, that is the same! Thanks Ingemar! That is exactly what I have been looking for. I just now was able to look at the picture you posted. Where did you get the stabilizer setup you have and who makes it?

It's from LSL. Read here to learn about how it installed. I got it from Trojan but several Badweb sponsors have them.

I could not open the link to your website. I'll try again later. I really appreciate your help on this. I'm sure that stabilizer made a big difference.

I click on it and it opens. Or try http://www.buelltiful.com/content/view/13/45/ . The same thing but without formatting. Just contact one of the supoorting vendors for a quote etc.

I just read your profile and I understand that your front is shaking? How bad is it? If it's so bad that you need a steering damper to lessen it there is something wrong with your bike. Even without a damper it shouldn't be shaking. Maybe you should look into setting up the suspension a little differently, check your steering head bearings or tire profiles.

When I first encountered the shaking I was on the highway in a fairly large sweeping right turn going around 95 mph and the road had a step in it where they recently repaved it. As I went over the "step" the front end started to shake badly (tank slap) and I had to instantly let off the throttle. I know that was not normal. I have gone much faster on my Ducati and that has never happened. I figured the Ohlins steering dampener made a big difference so I thought I would put one on the Buell. I love my Buell and I know it is a great bike. Maybe the tires are the problem (like you mentioned). I have 4,000 miles on the stock Dunlop 207's and I'm sure they are due for replacement. I'm taking the bike in for service tomorrow so we'll see what they say.

I still want to put the steering dampener on my bike. I ride pretty hard and I feel that little bit of extra support will help!!!

From your profile I asumed you had a constant headshake.

Put on the damper before its too late.
