I love my CityX. It's great. But as I've said before, in the 12 weeks I've had it it has weathered rather badly, despite the use of Harley recommended S100 anti corrosion spray (tested in California with salt water - apparently, but not the UK clearly!). Anyway, the nuts and bolts I can stand to replace (even some of the oil line fittings and brake banjos).

BUT!

The exhaust is rusty (not the downpipes). Buell's answer to my dealer was

'it is a race bike for the road and the pipe get's lots of stone chips, there's no way to prevent the rust'

They're pulling my chain clearly. The stone chips - yes, but the thing is rusting on top, under the chin spoiler! I think it's just a cheap (manufactured) component.

And, whilst I'm moaning, the CityX is no race bike! As I said, and I'll say it again, I love it, it's the best bike I've ever had, but the GSXR600 I had would have wasted it anywhere. 0-60, round the bends, stopping, everywhere. Now that's a race bike (boring on the road though!).

I bought the Jardine, it's on it's way. I'm going to take the old box back to metal and re-paint so it looks nice if I ever put it back on.

nick........ the race pipe rusts fact, the ceramic coating they out on later ones does not help much as the coating gets peppered with road debri, flakes off and then guess what? ... it rusts, mines painted black on top of the ceramic coating,it helps a little, but the best place for the race pipe is as a door stop in the garage as its generally accepted most aftermarket pipes easily out perform it,so once you fit the jardine i doubt you will want to refit the race pipe.....ive not fitted my jardine yet so cant really tell you how much better it is,or the sound difference between the......so if yours is on soon, let us know will ya...

I was disappointed with the Buell Rust Race Muffler as well, and for the same reason. When I got mine, no one else made a pipe for the XB. Install the Jardine and don't look back, not that you'll want to. It'll sound much better as well.

Remember one thing though. Anything under a motorcycle is going to get the worst of it. Just look under your Gixxer, or any bike for that matter, or hell look under your car. It's just the nature of things.

Jardine has an aluminum, carbon fiber, and titanium.

Guys, thanks for the info, but it's the stocker zorts, not the race pipe. that's what's bad about it, the race pipe I've heard is bad, but the stocker should do more than 1200 miles before going rusty. It's pants!

I'm sorry, but I have to say it...

"And, whilst I'm moaning, the CityX is no race bike! As I said, and I'll say it again, I love it, it's the best bike I've ever had, but the GSXR600 I had would have wasted it anywhere. 0-60, round the bends, stopping, everywhere. Now that's a race bike (boring on the road though!)."

First... "Wasted" is a HUGE overstatement, and even then, it only applies to ONE of those three situations. I think you just aren't used to the CX yet. Give it a couple thousand more miles.

I'm sure you'll be quite happy with your race-pipe.

And the 12R has plenty of power...1-2(or 2-3) ponies is mostly irrelevant for the street.

I returned my Pro series kit when Buell couldn't/wouldn't help us with a solution to the pinging.

I had a choice to return the whole kit, or just the ECM... The race pipe was rusting a lot and only had less than 1,000k's on it, so guess what, I returned it. I could not believe a factory item would have such a week finish.

Also, the Carbon Jardines won't hold up real well unde the buell, stick with the ally, or Ti units... But even the ally Jardine is heaps lighter than the OEM or Pro Series pipe.

Cool, thanks again guys. The Buell rocks. But it won't beat the Gixxer, nowhere!

But that's not why I bought it, it does what I want it to better than the gixxer, and that's the point.

I've been pondering which car I should get this coming year (I got permission for another vehicle!). I got it down to a TVR (350) or a 911. Now the TVR will waste the 911 on power and creams it on the track, everywhere. But this is the point, I don't want a car to do that with. The 911 has the style, the delivery and the overall package, which is why I've chosen it. Exactly the same as the Buell.

Off topic but you lucky bastards have access to the lotus elise. Nothing close to the raw power the tvr has but a very nice little rocket in it's own right.
