I removed all the Buell lettering and stickers from the bike. Looks great.. however, there is a fait(very faint) outline of the logo as if they used it to help place the letters. You got to get up on the bike to see it, but I know it's there. Anyway to get rid of it, for those of you that removed your lettering. I'm going to be airbrushing over it anyway, but I just wanted to know.

Been thinking hard about doing this on my XB9SX - the transparent blue is tough to keep polished with all of those raised letters in the way. Besides, I know what kidna bike it is - don't need to be reminded ; )

Tatsu, that 'outline' is there from exposure to the elements. sunlight mainly. if you plan to debadge anything (car, bike, etc.) it needs to be done fairly quickly otherwise you will always run into this issue of seeing differences in the paint.

I've sanded my airbox cover (and a good deal of the rest of the surlyn) with ~380 grit paper... I can still see the outline a little in just the right light. I like it though.

Yeah... that's what I thought. It's not bad...I just notice it, but like I said I'm going to airbrush over it.

M1, i've wondered about sanding the plastics to give them a flat appearance (i hate shine, chrome, etc.), do you think i could sand with a high-grit paper to get a flat look? is that what you did?

Sounds like you guy`s are going for the "Russel Mitchel" look from Exile Cycles. He also uses a scotch brite pad on all the aluminum ,it looks pretty cool!
I just don`t have the guts to do it to my bike ,being brand new and I havn`t even ridden it yet(other than the 3 kms. Iv`e done going up and down my street when the snow clears)!

Type One... I have tried using a finer paper but it mostly ends up polished looking. Or at least too shiny for my tastes. You can see the marks the paper leaves when using 380, so I didn't "quite" get the effect I was going for (except on the front fender... That looks perfect). I'll re-do the sanding some time early on in the summer and I'll use a little finer paper and wet sand it. I think that'll do the trick.

Just FYI...

I left the left and right "side" of the airbox cover shiny. I left the "wings" behind the chin-spoiler shiny, and I only sanded "aesthetically pleasing" portions of the fairing. Basically, I sanded the fairing where it is raised in the middle under the wind screen. I carried the sanding up to the top of the fairing bringing the outside edge of the sanded area closer and closer to the windscreen. I have a dark smoke double bubble and it looks nice and three tone on the front. As a side note, the sanding matches the frame pucks very nicely : ). If you want to get jiggy with sanded lines, use duct tape as a mask and "sand carefully". It works quite well. Be careful around the plastic insert that goes around the fuel receptacle. You will find that the portion of the airbox cover that your belly rests on and where your inner thighs are will be mostly polished after about 1K miles... Personally I like the effect. I also replaced the rivets for the chin spoiler with 3/4" chrome spikes. Looks very cool if you ask me : ). I saw a satin black painted bike on some website or another and while I like the effect of sanding better, they replaced the amber Buell lettering and it looked VERY nice on flat black : ). I'll be adding those back as soon as I order my Techlusion.

Pinball... Yes, I liked the bike Russel Mitchel made based on my idea ; ).

Oh... Expect to sand for a while. There's a finish on the plastic that needs to be removed. Also, in some areas you will get almost a wood grain look due to the injection molding (I think that's what does it). The only place that it's at all obvious is just towards the rear from the fuel receptacle. I kind of like it myself because it's fairly symmetrical. In other areas I just sanded more and ended up getting through it, but I left that one there. The entire project took me about three-four hours of sanding or so. That includes removing all the body work.

Don't have any... There might be a couple at American Sport Bike under their section for the American Sport Bike BBQ. It didn't have the spikes at that point though.

I only took out the "Amercian Sportbike" sticker off of the tank cover and left the "Buell" on the 12R. That looks really nice - Gold lettering, gold rims.

Anyway, I do see the outline just a very tiny bit as well. Used the 3M scratch remover as well as the McGuire's scratch remover on it, didn't work. No big deal though.

Misato painted his. I'm getting the paint to paint mine in the next couple of weeks. Porsche Cobalt Blue Metallic w/ some kind of Graphics. Getting Porsche Carrera White for the graphics. Any thoughts on the graphics/design? Was contemplating mild tribal flames or racing stripes. Thoughts?
