I was wondering if the traction grips would work with the XB9SX model? Could I keep the hand guards on the bike with the new grips on?

You would probably have to cut the ends of the grips off, but I believe that they will work.

They will work, just have to trim the ends out so you can put the plugs in the handlebar.
In stock.

I also have the 05 XB9SX, and I don't want to use the hand guards when the weather heats up here in south Georgia. Any advice on removing the plugs so they can be reinstalled next winter? My intent is to use bar end mirrors with gel grips, and no guards, (except in winter.)

Thanks,
Charlie

They just pull out and press in with no discernable damage. Should be no proble reusing them.

I would leave them in though. Remove the guards (if you want, mine are staying on year round, I really like them), but leave the plugs in. I mounted bar end mirrors through mine, no problem (and in fact a net improvement over the normal bar end setup).
