Ok guys, I'll be honest here. I've test rode the XB9R and XB12R. I never test rode any of the S models including the SX that I bought. I've not had any regrets since. Though, I will admit, I knew what to expect once I got on the SX from testing the 9R model.

Man! I sure am glad I found this website. Now I know (and can tell my wife) that I`m not crazy! I just bought a brand new XB9S a month ago and still havn`t ridden it, except I do have 3 kms. on it from riding up and down the street.This is my first street bike after many years of dirtbiking.I had my search narrowed down to 3 bikes ,the Buell, a Triumph speed triple,and a Honda 919.and it came down to the Buell simply for it`s looks and no-one else around here has one.I also read in a magazine that the XB9SX was like a dirtbike for the city streets.And after reading all your tesimonials ,I`d do it again.
Buell rocks!

Beware of the test ride. I enjoy riding my M2 alot. But after riding an XB I was thinking of all kinds of ways to get one. Some not-so-legal. Guess I'll just have to wait.

Roadsurfr: That is how I determined I needed to jettison my S2 for an XB! I thought the S2 was the funnest ride, but I was so very wrong. By the looks of the XB R models they look so uncomfortable. I was wrong in that area also.

Kaese, After an XB,I need something with a backrest for the wife. My Vulcan doesn't have enough getup to warrant further investment. The M2 is my baby. It will probably get Nallinized. The XB will be the do everything bike. Got to have something to ride while working on the other.

I have never done a 2 up on the XB. Even removed the passenger pegs. There is a luggage rack available for the XB the incorporates a backrest for the passenger. I had problems with the shock on the S2 that I just gave up on it unless one was willing to spend $1200.00 for the Penske, wich should have done the trick. I also had some other problems with the engine on the S2. I opted buying the XB. Haven't been disappointed with that decision yet. XB, most dependable and fun bike I have ever owned!

I complete agree with you about bikes being tools and not works of art...though they're beautiful in their own regard.

Truthfully, my SV looks rough...I've been down in it twice, and the chicks who park at my school have a problem with running into it while parked..and driving off and not telling me!

But...I could never convince myself to clean those wheels off, or get all the chain grease off the swingarm. And don't even get me started on polishing the exhaust headers. Everything fades...but as long as it still runs, and looks good from 10 feet...well, I'm happy. Besides...nicks and scratches are just personality! : )

I have no respect for a showbike, or for a chopper, which is essentially a rolling(barely) showbike.

I've only had a passenger on my 9R once and it is very cozy if you know what I mean, much more so than 5 other bikes I've taken passengers on. But if it's your lady that shouldn't be a problem, as long as it's not too far to get uncomfortable. In my case it was a buddy who couldn't get his bike started so I gave him a lift, he never wants to be that close to me again! But of course with v-twin grunt carrying a passenger is no big deal, and with the fully adjustable suspension you can set it up for the extra weight so it still handles ok.

Also...I heard the 9r motor was actually funner(though I'm probably opening a huge can of worms there) by being quicker revving and can be run through the gears more.

I imagine which motor's funner is extremely subjective and based on what the particular rider prefers. I'd probably shoot for the 9 though...regardless of price.

Ben, I feel your pain. With 2 bikes,a car and a truck, insurance is a serious issue. I'm thinking a 9 with a little engine work might be the ticket.

I'm riding a 9 and the extent of the engine mods are premium fuel.

It's not going to out striaght line any of the inline 4's but that coincides perfectly with my "I ride for the fun of it" program....

I'd seriously look at the XB9SX.

The Firebolts are capable of carrying passengers easily so long as they arent..ummm how do you say big boned without hurting feelings?: D

The Lightning tho is more of an afterthought as far as passenger accomodations go. Havent seen anyone ride 2 up on 1 yet. The seat is very very tiny.

Or just do what I did & pull the pegs off, throw on a seat cowl & buy the wife/girlfriend her own bike.

Oh oh, you may be in trouble now. I have seen 2 rather large people ride 2 up on a Blast before. Poor bike looked like it had flat tires too.

It doesn't have to be the most comfortable...just possible.

I remember the first time I took someone two-up on my bike I didn't even have passenger pegs on it. They just kinda put their foot on this or that....good thing I only went around the neighborhood. Just goes to show what a guy will do to have a member of the opposite sex pressed up close against him... : )

I think an XB9r sounds about perfect...now I'm just waiting to get back up to Pa so I can sell my SV and hit up the dillllership and see what it actually feels like. I imagine the jump in suspension, braking, and turn-in will impress me thoroughly...and I may just like the motor.

Oh and....screw beating an i-4 in straightline...I'm not going to say straightline speed is boring- just dangerous and bad for your lisence. All I'm saying is...anyone can twist a grip and hold on.

Sorry to be so late to the discussion. I might be able to help you with your decision. For starters, I'm about 100 miles closer to you than Court is (but his knowledge and resources are easily 100 times better than mine are). And those 100 miles are the boring, straight, turnpike-y roads, too. To make the trip in the proper Buellish fashion, you'd need to travel at least twice that far. (but you'd be more than compensated in the grin factor)

I ride through Phoenixville a bit, so you may have already heard what an XB sounds like. : )

I've dealt with some of the local H-D dealers, so I might be able to help you out there, too. Send me an email if you'd like. (if you start the subject line with [Buell], that should keep the message from getting stuck in my spam filter.)
