I got stranded in the middle of nowhere in the mountains yesterday, when my <20K Uly just stopped running. Several rides ago the fan came on while riding in temperate weather, but when I stopped and restarted the motor, all was well. Several rides later, about 30 miles into the ride it started missing some, like it had bad gas (I'd just done a complete refill at a modern, high-volume station). We paused for a break, and when I restarted it, everything felt back to normal. Until we'd ridden higher into the mountains, and the fan came on (temps were probably high 60s). I thought I'd stop at the first sign of civilization, but shortly after that the engine just stopped firing. I stopped, waited several minutes and turned the key on, and it would turn over just fine---just once sounded like it fired, but then nothing. Spent the rest of the day getting somewhere I could call a tow truck, and get the bike home around 9 PM. Today I saw that the oil looked pretty low (but couldn't warm the bike up to test properly), so I wondered if maybe the ECU had shut the bike down because of overheating. Got the battery fully charged and added some oil, but though it turns over fine, it won't fire. Then I realized that I was not hearing the buzz of the fuel injector pressurizing when I turned on the key. All the fuses in the fuse block tested good, though none were labeled Fuel Injector. Is there a fuse hidden someplace that I should check? Is there a thread on the forum that describes this issue (I've looked a bit for one)? I'm guessing that maybe my fuel injector has gone south. The PO mentioned that he'd had it worked on, and it was louder than any other Buell I've owned, but it's worked OK for a few years now. | ||

Per my '08 TT service manual, there is a dedicated fuel pump fuse. might check and confirm, just to be sure. Were it my bike, I would unplug the fuel pump from the harness (the connector is just above the pump, left side) and confirm 12V on the O/GY wire. If that is good, then I would take the airbox off, remove the airbox floor, and disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail. Point in a safe direction, and turn stuff on. A goodly spray of fuel should result. No fuel spray - the pump is bad. Good fuel spray - Check with local auto parts stores and borrow a fuel pressure test kit. Should be able to hold 50PSI at 2500-3000 RPM. Which is moot if the engine won't run . . . Hope this helps, Dave | ||

Stick the disconnected end into an empty coke bottle or the like to help contain the spray. I doubt you'll be able to borrow a fuel pressure test kit (from an auto parts store) to readily attach to the bike. https://aagaardmotofoundry.bigcartel.com/product/b uell-ebr-fuel-system-pressure-tester I think St. Paul used to sell actual adapter to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to monitor while the bike is running. Hi, the fuel pump can overheat, particularly when you get low on fuel as its fuel cooled, and also the wires too it are prone to chaffing. Happened to me, all was fine on a hot day till low on fuel, filled up with fuel (colder) and bike wouldn't start for 30 minutes. Get a referb kit for the pump (replacement pumps are outrageously expensive) and inspect the wires to the pump in the tank for damage. The pump will come out if you suspend the backend, take the back wheel off and let the swingarm drop under its on weight  | ||
