My roommates and I have always wondered if this would even be possible. I know all the electronics would have to be relocated and everything. We thought we could remove the cooling fan and put the battery there, and put some of the other electronics in the airbox. We also need to mount some forward foot controls with fabricated mounts. Any suggestions?

Please don't do that...

That's like tubbing the chassis of a Ferrari 250 GTO for drag racing. The Tifosi would string you up... And I wouldn't blame them.

Does it need to be with an XB? There are companies out there that sell Buell chopper conversion kits. You basically take an older tube frame Buell and put all the parts on a new frame you buy that's designed for them all to fit. I think you can put one together for under $10k which is better than a $30k custom chopper.

Yeah I know we've looked up here there's a shop called Motorcycle Works that makes custom frames so that you can direct bolt-in the motor, front suspension, rear wheel, and handlebars and gauges. They only make them for the tubers, but if we get atleast 3 orders in, they'll make some for us. They are freakin badass too. Check out their website www.mcworx.com and take a look at what they've built. Not including my XB, I figured I could build a custom buell chopper for under $5k, with the MCworx frame and all.

why pick on a Buell? sportster engine is cheaper, and they come with carburetor attached.

BTW, to get that rake you would need to cut the neck & reweld it, thats going to be a pretty nifty trick.

I say go for it. It easy to find crashed XB's.
You might be able to use triple clamps for the rake.
Of course I never said I was sane.

Welcome to Wronville... Population; you guys...

What were you thinking??

But then if you found a wrecked XB cheap, well, I guess it'd save you from putting cams and Fi on the sportster engine... But you wouldn't butcher a perfectly good chassis... Would you??

About 50% or more of my bike is used to bolt onto the new frame. The frame i want would initially turn my XB into this:

I have been considering building a custom hardtail with an XB9 powerplant. Nothing like the stuff above. I would not be using the Buell frame and swingarm. Does anyone seriously know a company building a hardtail frame that an XB motor will mount to. I know about a lot of the ones for the tube frame/sportster motor, but haven't seen anything specific to the XB motor. I have been seeing some good deals on totaled XB's lately, so it's beginning to sound like a good time for a new project.

Yeah there's a shop down here that's built some badass frames that fit the tube-frame motors. I've been working on them to build me one to fit my XB motor but supposedly it's more trouble than what it's worth...UNLESS they get atleast 3 orders for an XB frame. Email me if you're seriously thinking about getting a frame and I'll show you some bikes they've built and we'll talk. email: duff_24_w@yahoo.com
