For those of you who have painted their bikes, I know what kind I need, and the works. I just need to know roughly how much it took. This paint isn't cheap, and I don't want to end up with more than I need! Did one quart do enough for the base coats? Thanks!

a lot less than a quart if you use Dupont Base coat-clear coat because you reduce it.

Find a good paint supplier and he'll sell you the right amount
When i paint tanks and the like i usually get the smallest amount they will sell me , if i run out i get more.....clear is the most expensive part of the process...all urethane clears are mostly the same so you can save a few bucks if you buy a non-brand name...if you are really thrifty....befriend a local body guy and you may be able to get a batch mixed up and bring it directly home and shoot it( the clear )

caution...don't put more than 2 coats on the buell plastic or when it flexes (sp) it will crack

I've heard of people using that. How well did it hold up? I'm looking for high quality! Dupont has a whole system for painting this plastic. Using the ChromaSystem. That's what I planned. As far as coats go, The three cans covered the whole bike one coat?

Wash plastic with dish soap and dry.
Then I sanded everything with a medium, then a fine and then a 600 grit.
Wash plastic with dish soap and dry.

For primer, I sprayed 2 coats and then used the 600 grit.
Wash plastic with dish soap and dry.
1 more coat of primer and another round of 600.
Wash plastic with dish soap and dry.

For paint 3 cans covered the entire bike with 3-5 coats depending on how successful the first 3 coats were.
If I was not completely happy with the finish after 3 I would sand the rough spots and spray 2 more.

This may have been overkill, but it turned out great!
I was up until 5am both last night and the night before finishing this project.

I did some other stuff too that I think everyone is gonna dig.

Pics coming soon!

You may want to pic up 5 cans of paint and primer just to be sure.
And stock up on the 600 grit because you will go through it quickly.
