What does everyone wear when it's cold out. I have a leather jacket, but that's about it. My gloves, jeans, and sneakers don't do anything to stop the cold. It was in the 50's last night and I was f'n freezing. I know 50's is probably warm to most of you guys. So call me a sissy if you must, but I've lived in South Florida all my life and if it's 60's or below, it's heavy jacket weather to me. I'm goin' hunting for some warmer leather gloves today. | ||

Daveinm, I rode to work this morning in the balmy Colorado 24 deg. I wore a First Gear Kilimanjaro air jacket (I love this jacket) over a short sleeve shirt, Jeans, boots, and thinsulate gloves. I have BMW riding long johns and Joe Rocket over pants if it actually really gets cold outside. Ride safe. Marc | ||

Something that won't let air through will make a big difference. I had a Joe Rocket jacket that had an insulated vest... that was a joke. It was just fleece. Then I got a first gear jacket, and it had some sort of aluminum mylar insulater, absolutely totally impervious to air, and it has full sleeves. Amazingly warm. That'll cover your torso. The wind deflectors from the 9sx should bolt right up to your lightning, and make a huge difference for the hands. They work amazingly well. Wal Mart has black nylon "rain pants" (stearns maybe?) for $15 that roll up to be very tiny when not in use, and are wind proof. Even though they have zero insulation, they help quite a bit when the temperature is marginal. For shoes, I would not ride without over the ankle something or others anyway, not enough skin between my bones and the pavement around my ankles. If you take care of everything else, the feet do better regardless. | ||

Lomax and I posted at the same time... that is the same Jacket I have, the one with that fancy insulator. It really works well. It was a gift (which I really appreciated), but in hindsight if it were my own money, given how much it cost, I would probably just close my eyes and hand over the credit card and just get an Aerostitch. | ||

I have Joe Rocket Blaster paints. (leather) They keep my legs very warm. Alpine Star Roam boots. No complaints | ||

My gear: Basics: Joe Rocket pants, HJC jacket, both leather - I *gotta* get a seamstress to make an elastic panel that adapts the zippers! Undergear: I shop Campmor.com for closeouts on ski and outdoor stuff. I have a merino wool & Thermax two-layer longjohn, Thermax long-sleeve turtleneck t-shirt (blaze orange, of course!), Thermax glove liners and a fleece neck warmer. Socks are two pairs, coolmax inside of wool. When it gets below 40 degrees, I put on the gore-tex snowmobile gloves... | ||

It was in the mid-30s here in TN this morning. I have the following gear for winter riding: Outer Jacket: JR Meteor 3.0 (with liner) Inner Jacket: HD Electric Full-Sleeve Jacket Pants: JR Ballistic 4.0 Boots: JR Revolution Helmet: HJC AC-10 Neckwear: Gator Gloves: HD Electric Gloves I just had a single pair of socks under the boots, my khaki pants under the JR pants, and a long-sleeve shirt under the jackets. Yep, electric gear is awesome! | ||

my Marmot gloves are really thin, yet they seem to be impervious to wind; a thin liner underneath is all I need. Damart makes the worlds warmest underwear. I have several peieces of their stuff and it the best I have ever worn. http://www.damart.com/produit/produit_liste.htm?rid=101 | ||

Anything that is Gortex will keep the wind off of you extremely well. I wear my Gortex jacket all winter long and when it rains. Nothing gets thru that stuff....Odie | ||

I use my technical outdoor gear to ride in the cold. I am partial to Patagonia products so I wear Midweight Capilene as my base layer with a T-shirt then depending on how cold it is I may wear a heavy duty R-1 Flash Pullover. I wear all this under my Joe Rocket Alter Ego jacket and with a turtle I stay warm as a bug Campmor.com is a great place to get products as someone stated before You can also check out sierra trading post and Northern Mountain for discounted outdoor gear. | ||

Electricity rules! Nothing beats an electric vest.I have used a Widder for the last 10 years, have the gloves and chaps, have ridden in 9 degrees F and not been cold! Only 1 thing worse than being cold on your motorbike,...being cold and WET on your motorbike! | ||

Court, the fuse box comes out easily from under the seat (two screws as I recall) and there are plenty of nice clean places to use one of the "spare" fuses for accessories. The battery is right there as well, so a direct tap from that would be simple. That big rubber X on the airbox would also be a nice clean place to mount a simple flush mount power jack as well. Maybe on the back of the X where it faces the rider. | ||

Just got back from the supermarket 27F. insulated long johns 2 long sleeve shirts Buell Sidewinder leather jacket and of course gloves, it wasn't to bad only a short ride. I installed the Buell race can this weekend ( the can sounds awesome i'll install the ecm this friday or saturday) so I'll take the bike out for any reason. | ||

Just got back from a half hour cruise around at 27 degrees myself. It's easier than winterizing and we have no snow yet here in MN so what else is there to do.  Besides all the stuff everyone else said, a good balaclava helps tons. I have one that I got at Dennis Kirk many years ago for snowmobiling. It's thin on top so it doesn't affect the helmet fit but turns into fleece around the neck and has about a 10" flap that goes all around the base of your neck and tucks into your jacket. I don't see the exact one there anymore but it's kind of like this.  Also, my Aerostich pants have thick knee pads in them (1-2" ) which really help the knees from getting numb on longer rides in the cold. | ||

I'm outfitting the bike with Polly Heaters. They are heating elements that fit inside of the handlebars. I've already installed them and am finishing up the wiring of them to the main power supply. They were ~$30 so I could put a set on each of my two bikes and it would still be cheaper than electric gloves. | ||

Yup, I'm definitely a sissy. It's only 60 degrees here and I'm freezing. I can't justify buying a bunch of really warm gear for the 2 days of cold we get though. I'll just deal with it and try and remember your crazy asses riding in actual freezing temps. | ||

I rode to work Monday on my XB12R and it was 18 degrees. Thanks to www.widder.com I was comfortable. I used their heated vest, arm chaps and gloves. Heated clothing is the only way to go in freezing weather. | ||

I wear nothing. I prefer feeling alive. So I wear nothing. Well except my alpinestars leather stunt jacket, jeans, boots, socks, underwear, and my favorite hoody sweatshirt, but other then that I wear nothing. | ||

i also live in fla.50 degrees this morning and i haven't ridin in about 10 days.partly due to crappy weather but mostly because of my job.tis the season..early mornigs and late nights..and i dont have a decent pair of gloves..they are on the way though.. so anyways being new to buelldom about 2 months...been riding about 25 years though..mostly import...1 harley...it was killin me..so i went out this morning fired up the 12 was just gonna start it and listen to it for awhile...yeah i know thats pretty sick. so i'm listening to the thump thump thump...next thing i know i'm grabbing my helmet,sweatshirt,figured a ride around the neighborhood is better than nothing, i dont even get a mile and my fingers are freezing nose is running,just my opinion but a stock pipe on a buell sounds so much better than anything else out there...i hope my neighbors appreciate it as much as i do! it was a quick fix but greatly needed and yes i will be late for work by posting this....but you got to have your priority's... just had to share...now i can go to work with a smile on my face |
