the SM does state to use NEW fastners when re-installing the rotors on the wheels, but the bike has less than 5K miles yet. Would it be OK the reuse the ones i took off, or should i go ahead and get the new parts? I tried a search on this but no luck....

thanks,

james

I don't think it has anything to do with mileage, and everything to do with sppecial locking coatings and perhaps an interference fit. I would not reuse them except in an emergency, and then only with a bucket of loktite red.

I'd listen to the service manual.

Probably not.

I'd listen to the service manual as well, and I'm not selling anything...

i removed and replaced my front rotor twice, attemted to resurface it to get rid of a horrible pulsation in the front brake. i did re-use the fasteners, used red loctite, and torqued carefully to spec. the fasteners are critical, but not highly stressed if installed with the correct torque. the "resurfacing attempt" reduced the brake problem marginally. the cure was a new rotor, which of course came with fasteners included. the original rotor was badly warped, not sure why, i only ride on the street, and never got it very hot. on the other hand i have gotten the front rotor on sportster glowing dull red hot (no BS) and it did not warp.

Accurate.

>>>i have gotten the front rotor on sportster David Wells' gift Night Train glowing dull red hot (no BS) and it did not just to intentionally warp the rotor.

Forgive me Lord......
