Is there any way that I'd be able to run a 26 tooth front pulley sprocket on my XB? This would be one of the parts used in upgrading my drive system to the 2004.

Is there a idler pulley that would accommodate for the different sizing?

not so sure a 3% gearing change is going to be very significant or noticeable, but it would be very easy to file a slot into one of the mounting holes of the aluminum idler pulley arm. like this:

I believe your speedometer/odometer would also be made incorrect by this modification. If making the gearing lower (meaning engine speed is higher for the same speed) then your speedo may report higher speeds and longer distances than actual...just something to consider.

Then I'd have to install a calibrator like The Yellow Box

I changed my M2 from a 27 to a 26 and it made a big difference for riding in town and two-up. The bike is much smoother and doesn't lug at lower speeds.

I initially bought it for my S3 but never installed it. Now that I found out the 04 uses the same pulley, only 27 tooth, on my XB9, I can apply it to my '03 with the belt upgrade.
