Does anyone carry an high performance-high output aftermarket stator, volt reg., charging system. I do a lot of high rpm cruising on the highway and my bike has been in the shop 6 times for a total of 8weeks for the same problem. The Stator and Voltage keep getting fried. I read that jap bikes had this problem for a while until the used a volt. reg that was self adjusting. For instance, Low Rpms more output from volt reg, High Rpms less output from volt reg. Anyways, would other Charging systems from Harley Davidsons work on the XB12R? Thanks

the XB comes from the factory with a high performance high output stator. the engine also comes with a rev limiter, so you are not damaging your stator from excessive engine speed. who is performing the "repairs" to your bike?

I had the bike in 3 different shops each of them performed the repairs twice. Are the voltage regulators on the xb's shunt style. If so, wouldn't it be possible for the stator to always be under a full load when it is not neccessary causing it to overheat and break. Would Series style voltage regulators be better/

you are correct in that the regulator is a shunt style, and so the 3 phase stator is running at full output at all times. the system,when installed correctly is quite reliable and works well for most of us. it is evident by the repeated failures that the fault condition has not been repaired, the parts that these monkeys are replacing may well have failed, but that does not mean they were in fact defective. what i am trying to say is that you need to have your electrical system inspected, and the fault identified. the shotgun approach of replacing parts is evidently not working for you.

Yeah, I am getting the electrical system checked out by a local motorcyle specialist shop. I met these guys at show and they seem like they know their stuff. Hopefully they can find the problem. Thanks
