not to sound like a jerk, but it seems alot of people whine about trivial things like chafing wires, vibration issues , etc. the xb series is a new design, it is a vibrating , snorting mechanical device, if you need to check and change things a little big deal. it ain't a toyota, it's a performance motorcycle that frankly is the most fun i have had on 2 wheels on the street in my life, been riding for 22 years, never owned a motorcycle that didn't have problems. the r6, and other japanese bikes have had almost 20 years to iron out the problems. if you want trouble free, smooth run of the mill motorcycles all the japanese manufacturers have many options.i will take the buell all day long, just my opinion, hans

though u may be right about some of those things i think the plug wires issue was more of a bring it to everyones attion deal to warn people about the situation than anything.

I don't view it as whining. I feel this board is a helpful tool to find out other XB riders' experiences...Good and bad. I do like it when people speak up about wiring problems, etc...So I can make sure my bike is tip top. I feel most people here will agree with you that the Buells are great bikes and a lot of fun. Furthermore most people purchased their Buell to get away from the Jap scene.

+2! I'd be stuck taken her to the dealer if it weren't for some of the threads here. That in it self is worth every bit of "whining", as you say. I believe most people on this board have ridden or owned a Jap bike at one time, and we all agree, BUELLS ARE BETTER, even at this early stage of production. That just means after "twenty years to iron the problems" I'll be riding one of the best production motorcycles made. We all know that if wanted top end speed, Triumph, Ducati, Aprilla, any Jap crotch rocket would do. It is about American Motorcycles and the feeling you get on a Buell. Top end is not what we want. You obviously get it, you are on one. No body is whining, just helping fellow bro's and sisters out with problems that might (or might not) arise.

Yeah, I bet as soon as you saw my post about the chafing spark plug wire you went right out and checked yours, didn't you?

Why don't you quit whining about other people whining?

Mike.

i didn't personally attack anyone, i am all for the posts from people fiding problems and reporting them. . let me try this again, i think some people didn't understand my original post. i am just saying that this is a fairly new bike that has it's problems, and will continue. i find the shifting to be pretty notchy for 1, 2 gears, i deal with it and love the bike. i am glad that you posted about your spark plug wires chafing, and no i didn't look at my wires after reading your post, i installed my techlusion box this morning and checked everything while i was in there. my main point is that this is a new model and will take some time to iron out the problems. maybe my post came off wrong, if so, sorry, not trying to step on toes here. just saying this is not a perfect bike in a perfect world.

I don't think it is whinning just advertisement that there are little problems out there that require the rider to keep an eye on them. Get a room of different bikers together and name every model in the car park and the owner will be able to tell you 5 things that could have been better from the factory. The problem with the XBs is the stuff going wrong should have been found on the pre production testers and rectified. Like steering head bearing that require adjustment every 2000km and an electrical harness that is rubbed raw before the run-in period is over. I don't consider a bike now into it's 3rd year of production a new model. Hell I got a mid 2004 production bike and am still not happy that it is suffering the same problems of the first 2002 model run.

BTW don't get fuel on the windscreen - instantly turns it milky. Don't ask how I know just don't do it.

It's good to discuss the imperfections because these discussions will help lead to better solutions in the future.

Man, I hate my Buell, I hate it so much I put on 1800 of the worst miles I've ever ridden on a bike I hated so much. I put those miles on in only 3 weeks of the worst ownership ever. What a piece of fine machinery. I hate it.

(j/king. Love that bike baby!!!)

Let's interject some fact into this discussion, especially based upon the opening post that seemingly paints the Buell XBs as trouble prome compared to Japanese bikes.

The truth is that credible consumer pollign results show that the reliability of the new Buells is surpassing that of the Japanese race replicas. As always, people on a discussion board will talk about problems.

Yep, am living proof that this can be a liability in one's outlook. Two years ago, I was given the "Fear of the Lord" concerning my X1 and both belt and oil pump drive gear failure. Neither has been a problem and show no signs of wear in all this time and miles of smiles.

The inverse is, I received a lot of very good info concerning how to set up the bike and am extremely pleased with the results. Sure, that means upgrading some failure prone parts at my cost, but it was well worth the small investment.

In conclusion, let the whining and praising continue. That's probably the only way I am going to learn to deal effectively with the beast I love so much.
