Finished up the S to R tail switch late Thursday night.

It's beautiful, man. ("clerks" tone)

I was having problems with my digital cam so I was unable to get any pics. Probably needs a new feces oscillator valve or something. Anyways, when I do get it figured out, I will post pics. I mounted everything pretty much the same way Tsmith did his. (Thanks Tim.) I think it only took me about 9-10 hours to do the whole thing by myself, working on it for a couple hours after work each day. I do have to say it was as easy as everyone said it was. Just takes time.

Got some pucks from Dave but I think I am going to wait until it gets a little warmer to mount them.

I know some of you wanted to see how it was done, I can just say to check Tim's page.

http://www.tsmithbuellxb9slr.com/

I will attempt to show the finished product as soon as I get this dammed camera working right.

Rich

Glad I could Help. I still need to get mine painted. I installed a set of crossroads bars too, I think I might put the old bar back on, not sure that I like the crossroads..

Yeah, the ride height was changed. My S was a LOW and I used to be flat footed sitting on it, I'm not on my tip toes, but I cant stand flat footed anymore. The Yellow's are the same.

The ride height did change, like Tim said. Seeing that both Tim and I have Low models, I think the change was kind of drastic. It's in a good way though. If someone were to switch a regular model, (which Trenchtractor did) I don't think the change would be quite as bad. You'd have to ask him.

All in all, I like the change. Makes the "SLR" stand out that much more. I think it will change the comfortability that much more. The stock S seat got a little rough after a couple hundred for me. The touring seat will be nice.

I also want to throw out another big thanks to Dave for all his help, too.

Here are some pics of the finished product. One with the touring seat and one with the solo seat. You'll have to excuse the mess in there, I haven't had time to build a proper workbench.

I will try to get some better pics when I get a chance. Something a little more flattering...

I think the LOW models have a lower cut 'S' seat. My International model XB12S didn't change seat height to any extent you'd notice, but it wasn't a low model to start with. In fact, the first ride I went on, I forgot I'd converted it that afternoon and had to take a second look as I got off... ; )

Hey Evil. That looks great! Is there a difference between the R foot pegs and the S pegs? If so which ones do you have on there? I can't wait until after Xmas now. Brupska

They are the S pegs, it started as an S model. Now it had been dubbed the "SLR".

If I'm not mistaken, I think the S pegs are almost an inch lower than the R pegs. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it makes a difference. She's got a nice streetfighter look going on now. If it's not snowing or raining this weekend, I am gonna pull 'er out and see how the fit and feel is.

Sounds about right with the difference on the pegs... I hate the 'R' pegs, there is more weight on my legs than my a double s.

But then my legs are fat.

I got it for the girl. When she isn't on back, it will have the solo cowl on. I don't think it looks too bad, but I like the smooth look of the cowl. Plus, it will go faster. hehe.

Hey Evil, Did that seat help with giving more room to the passenger? Every bit helps, because the S model has enough room for my 8 y/o and that is it! I also want to say that I am sorry for not responding to your invite to get together sometime when the weather breaks. I think that would be cool to ride with more buells. I just injured my shoulder so I won't be riding anytime soon. I did it at work today and I will need surgery after the doctors get off of their a**. Workmans comp sucks! TTYL Brad

That was one of the deciding factors, Brad.

Besides the looks, 2-up riding was just too much of a pain. The gf was just about smothering me when we rode together. She is a very good passenger, though. It was just something she couldn't help. We sat on it together after the switch and it seemed a lot better. I won't have official results until next season, though.

I will let you know. I try to make some time to make it down the Haute sometime next year. I want to swing in and meet Bubba anyway.

Cool Evil, I have only seen two lightnings around the Terrible Haute area. A black one and a yellow one. There is a white firebolt around also. I know what you mean by smothering you riding two up. My son is the only one who doesn't but he is only 4'6" at 68lbs. I talked to Daves today and he is faxing me the info on the conversion to a R model. Do you have any tips on the tail conversion so I don't run into to many problems? Well just let me know when you are in the area and I will let you know if I am heading out your way also.Where does Bubba live? TTYL Brad

That is the Buell Firebolt custom seat and the touring Pillion. Drivers seat was 150 and the touring pillion was 120. They are both on the Buell web site and you can get them from Dave.

Tips on the switch? You will need to make a bracket to hold the rear brake res. and something to hold the battery in. That is about it. Take your time, check out Tim's site above, he has a lot of good pics of his.

I think Bubba is in Bloomington. Just one of those people that I feel the need to meet in person.

Brupska, The black one would be mine. I live in Sillyville. I don't recommend you spend any of your money at Wabash. Do it in Bloomington. Bloomington owner is gonna have some local events next year as well as sponsor another track day.

Bracket for the brake res, something to hold the battery down,,,and you have to extend the wires for the rear turn signals and brake light. everything else is plug n play. Dont try to put the ECM on top of the battery it wont work,,,it will have to go to the side of the battery. and make sure the bank angle sensor says "UP" when you relocate it and mount it.

Yeah, what Tim said.

I took 'er out last night when I got home from work. It was still about 45 degrees out. Initial impression is very good. I will have to adjust to the new seating position, though. Seems like I sit almost 1.5-2" higher. It felt good. Just something that was a change.

Not sure if it's done yet. You know how that goes. It'll start getting colder and I'll start wrenching on it more.

Never know what the end result might be...

yeah, It is taking a little getting used too, and at the same time, I installed crossroad bars,,,so now its a huge difference. I bought the S low so i could touch the ground flat footed, and it does raise it a bit. I will be happy once it all gets painted. Starting to snow here

It's supposed to start snowing here tomorrow. It doesn't do anything but rain anymore. That's why I took 'er for a spin on Thursday night. It was gooooood.

Cold won't stop me. Fear of ice will....

Tim,

I have to correct you there... Sorry. I got my ECM sitting on the battery real nice now... I had to move it from under the pillion seat to make way for the TFi. I got so many cables running through there, I couldn't fit it beside the battery.

I'll get excited and post some pic's for you if you want...

You guys did a great job of getting everything to fit under the rider seat, but I did put the daignostic connector under the pillion seat for easier access, allong with the TFi. Just makes working on it that much easier...

I wanted to be able to use the glove compartment, to take my Chatterbox off my helmet to lock it up. So it was very important to get everything under the seat.
