Can any one tell me if the front disc has to be removed to mount new tires...how about the rear.......tire recommendations???based on an earlier thread here i am planning on putting the metzler sportec m-1 on my xb9.....suggestions.......dave

Hello Dave.
If you are going to work on your own bike, you really need to get the shop manual. Daves has them.
In the mean time, no, the disks do not need to be removed, but you do have to remove the belt exactly by the book or you may cause the belt to fail prematurely: this can be a problem on the 2003 XB9's.
I switched to Michelin Pilot Power tires,and I like them a lot, but others report good results with Pirellis, and the Metzlers.

Leave all the gear on the rims. I managed to mount a set of tyres using only a homemade bead breaker, 2x large tyre levers, 2x small levers and 3x rim protectors. Not a mark on the rims and the Dunlops were surprising easy to get off compared with past attempts.

The front wheel can be a bitch to unhook off the caliper. I found that by pulling out the axle, lifting the front wheel about 2", then rotating it left so the left hub tucks in behind the left fork, you can then get the disc off the caliper. I don't know how everyone else does it. A bit of tape on the spokes near the caliper can save the finish on the wheel.
