My '03 xb9s did not come with a manual when I got. I was needing to know how much motor oil and gear oil are needed.

From the service manual:

1.) Inspect drain-plug o-ring for tears or damage. Replace if required (I change it every time, it's cheap insurance)

2.) Install drain plug and tighten to 29-31 ft-lbs.

3.) Fill oil tank through filler (dipstick) hole. Oil tank capacity with filter change is approximately 2.5 quarts (2.4 liters) and includes the 4.0 ounces poured into the new filter. Always verify proper hot oil level on dipstick. Do not overfill.

Transmission fluid:

Fluid capacity is 1.0 quart, for best results, drain fluid while hot.

1.) On level surface, stand vehicle upright (very carefully, not leaning on kickstand) to prevent chaincase lube from draining out of clutch cover opening.

2.) Wipe any foreign material from the magnetic drain plug. Reinstall plug and tighten to 14-30 ft-lbs.

3.) Remove clutch inspection cover w/ gasket from primary cover

4.) Add chaincase fluid until fluid level is even with bottom of clutch diaphragm spring.

5.) Install clutch inspection cover with new gasket and torque fasteners to 84-108 ft-lbs

Hope this helps, I highly recommend buying a service manual and a parts catalog if you plan on doing any of your own maintenance or repairs. Good luck!

I have heard that the drain plug torque value in the manual is too high. It should be 11-15 ft-lbs, not 29-31.

The clutch inspection cover torque value is 84-108 in-lbs not ft-lbs.

Hey Dunner, When you doing your service? If I'm not home call Boog or run by the house. We need to get your pic up so the fellas/gals can see your ride. I'll bring my digi cam to church Wednesday PM service -- that means you'll be riding :-) Later.

What's up Greg. I got the service done! I had to see if I could do it or not. Everything went perfect. Logan helped me so it rides even better now.Boog and I are going for a ride after church unless he has work. Be careful coming home. I'll see you Wednesday, Bigdaddy.

Working dude, just working. Ya'll have a big time out there riding without me. I had Boog change all his fluids Wednesday -- I kicked back and watched him work. I can't seem to get his carb 'right' so I may need to get some outside assistance on it.

Going to Buffalo Tuesday and then on to Shreveport, so I may miss you Wednesday. Don't know when I'll get home right now. I didn't know about this road trip when I posted the first message. We'll get your pic up soon!

You better watch Logan or he'll catch the disease and you see what it's done to my little buddy :-)

Take care of yourself! I'll make sure everybody is good it church. My prayers with you. Logan has caught the "Buell bug", says he wants a bike like mine when he gets big.

Just some words of wisdom on the clutch inspection cover-stick with the lowest torque setting or you WILL strip the cover over time. If you do strip the threads then see my old post about time-sert thread repair in the archives (I speak from experience).
