Thought I should introduce myself now that I joined the sickness. I learned to ride at a HD Riders Edge class in St. Petersburg last June and bought a Blast to learn on, which I rode for about 4000 miles. My intention was to move up to a Softtail Deuce by the end of the summer. In the mean time I came across this board and have read it regularly. I also realized by riding the Blast that what addicted me to riding was different from what I expected - speed through the turns, flicking the bike back and forth; and a cruiser might not be what I want after all. I demoed a couple of Harleys and was a little disappointed. Then about a month ago I demoed a CityX, and knew within a half mile of the ride that this was my bike. I bought it immediately upon returning to the dealer. This bike has become so addicting that I ride between 100 and 200 miles a day, except for when I’m out of town. Then, I simply go nuts.

I love this bike.

I better get on the ball. If I continue at the rate I am going 100 people on the board will have a CityX before I do.
Enjoy your bike and know that I am very jealous of you.

Hey Jeff- glad to hear your experience confirms exactly what I was told by several experienced motorcyclists before I bought my first bike: nobody really knows what kind of bike they want/need until they've been riding for a while. A lot of people drop $8k-10k on their first bike only to find it's not what they thought it would be. Sounds like you did exactly the right thing.

Congrats on the CityX.

I totally know what you mean.
I did the exact same thing.
I grew up tagging after my brother's and their friends on dirt bikes. Finally I got to a point in my life where getting a streetbike was feasible and I got a blast to 'get comfortable'. I had every intention of buying a 'Cruiser' but once Glitch and Shred started taking me to the twisties it was all over. I was hooked and I couldn't get enough. I didn't have a problem with the corners on the blast, my problem was keeping up with the 'big boyz' in the straight-a-ways.

I bought an XB9R about 2 months ago.

I still have the Blast. It's a fun bike,
and once I do some mod's to it I'll enjoy it even more.

Welcome to the madhouse!

Is it me or do we have new guys dropping on a daily rate lately?

It's not just you... Wasn't it Court who said something about a certain "critical mass" a few months ago? Too bad we can't invest in Buell alone...

That's true. I would sell all of my shares of H-D and turn it over into Buell stocks.....Odie

Welcome to the madhouse!

You may yet find room for a cruiser in your garage. Many of us are fortunate enough to have more than one bike, often different makes and styles. Click through the profiles and you'll see quite a few sportbike + cruiser owners. I love my XB, and since buying it a few months ago I've ridden of my miles on it, but there are days when nothing satisfies like a relaxed ride through the Superstition Mountains listening to the rumble of my truck-piped Valk (see profile).

Jeff, You are more than welcome to ride with the Lakeland BRAG group if you like. We meet up at least every first Saturday of the month. It is a good ride on some of the best roads in central Florida.

Davefl,

Thanks, I will definitely do that. I was just about to post asking if anyone knew of an active BRAG chapter in the Tampa area.

I'm always looking for new roads.

Ethan,

You're right. The original idea was for my wife to ride also, but after trying it she learned it's just not for her. She wants us to get a cruiser to tour Florida. For some reason she doesn't like riding 2up on the Buell.

Thinking about a Heritage Softtail.

Glad you are hooked.

I am a corner-worker for AMA Pro Marshals and spend 10 days working the races in Daytona every spring. I learned to appreciate the Buells in the Thunderbike Class and bought a XB12R from "AlDaytona" at Daytona Beach Harley a month ago. Had the race kit put on it today and life is good. Compared to my Gixxer 1000R I would describe the Buell as loads of fun and low end torque as well as the famous potato potato sound. The Gixxer is still a keeper but requires all your attention and a large helping of respect.
