So I found a Buell tank bag at Mancuso HD earlier this week and last night I decided to venture into the garage to see how it fit on my City X. So I begin to fool around with the straps and I can't figure this out...

I even removed the airbox but the strap isn't long enough. Then I pushed the strap under the "X" on the airbox but then it was too long. Am I just stupid? I'm beginning to think that this bag is for an older model?

Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well, the bag was originally designed for a XB*R or *S, not the SX. That X probably makes it too tight.

I'm assuming the strap that you're having problems with is the rear strap. You need to remove the seat and attach it using the two rear airbox cover bolts, just like the front.

Try cutting the strap (ONE SIDE ONLY!!!) at the base, so that you have a single longer strap rather than a doubled-over short one, and thread it through the clip. This should make it longer as well as making it adjustable (what I and several others on the board have done).

The Buell tank bag fits fine on my CityX. Installed per instructions no modifications needed.

JP, apparently I have an older bag. No problem as per Darthane's suggestion I will have to make some mods to the strap. I am going to cut the forward strap in half, have the wife sew the ends to it does not fray, and screw this to the airbox using the factory screws. The rear strap will be mounted somewhere under the seat and pulled tight.

Whoa, whoa, whoa - you don't need to cut the front straps - they're only 2" long to begin with!

Are you sure you have an XB tank bag? It should have three plastic snaps (like on a backpack) and a bottom that velcroes to the bag itself.

This is the proper bag for a XB.

Mike bolts, if you need longer straps, check at your local Wally world in the camping dep. I had to and got complete strap w/both male and female clips for about $1.99 Those clips were the same size that my tank bag has, just needed to cut to length then sew a little "X" on the ends.

Darthane, that's not my bag. I must have gotten hold of an older one, but no biggy, I trimmed the front straps, mounted them to the airbox's front screws and fastened the rear under the seat. It fits very well.
