I was wondering what Buell did different to the City X engine vs. the earilier 9 ver. I believe I read something about them using the 12 air box cover, but what else?

I was at a recent Motorcycle show, and asked one of the Buell guys what difference is in the engine and he told me Absolutely the SAME motor... Between 03 XB9 and the 04/05 SX. I was under the impression, as well, that the engine went through some refinements. Guess we were wrong. seemed pretty smooth when I tested the SX though. Bone stock and probably abused by Demo Rides.

It's different...

The throttle body from the 12 was used and the airbox cover from the 12 was used. Thunderstorm heads??? I don't think so. But I could be wrong : ).

the throttle body is different, however its not the throttle body from the 12. The new throttle body is made like the 12 but its still the same size.

The cam cover reads "Thunderstorm 984". Have someone check.

If they're not, that's what they are advertising.

The ECM's are different, as well as using the 12 airbox.

Another curious difference is that there is a tapped hole in both fork legs now to pin down the stainless front brake lines. Still only one brake, but now both legs have tapped holes.

Reep - Is it so the fork leg can be used on either side?

Actually it is on the brace, not the leg, so it would not be a piece that could be flipped (I don't think).

According to my dealer, the heads are the same on all XB models because there's only one serial number listed for the heads. That's what he told me, uh huh.
