2009 Buell Xb12SS with 24K miles.

Drummer exhaust, breather reroute, open air box with K&N, EBR ECM.

My routine is to let the motorcycle idle for about 3-4 minutes for the first start of the day before I get on and ride. Everything is fine, as the motorcycle gets up to speed and operating temperature.

When I stop and turn off the bike, to get gasoline for example, and then turn it back on, if I put it in gear and go right after starting, the exhaust tone will be a bit coarse and choppy. If I let the motorcycle idle for 20 seconds, it will not do that.

Is this normal, or is there something that I can check out/adjust?

Plugs are fouling when you shut it off.

I see. Is there anything I can do about that?

Why...how would the spark plugs be "fouling" when he shuts the engine down ?
Other than giving it full throttle the instant there is no power to the spark plugs...
Inquiring minds would like to know.

For what it's worth, my XB12s hasn't done anything like this that I can tell. Will pay close attention to it tomorrow morning.

Yea...close as I can tell, the same idle quality as before shutting down for fuel vs. just after starting after fueling.

Is your bike a Cali model with the charcoal canister?

Could be filling with fumes overnight or as you fill up and trying to purge through the intake (very rich) right at start up.

Let it idle for 20 seconds. Problem solved.

How long is the bike off for? If you can log, see what temp you go down to when you restart and check on your clt temp. If the temp is such, you maybe back on cold start enrichment. Being a dynamic system , cold start enrichment may be only on for that 20 seconds or so till ecm takes it out of enrichment mode. Another viewpoint is all. I have a stock ecm on my 07x and I've noticed this at times in cooler weather. Whether the motor cools that much is debatable, but the clt sensor loses temp in a hurry un till fan turns off at 170c. Cold start enrichment turns off at 180c as motor rewarms.
