Something just occurred to me. Okay, not just, a few days ago, but I'm finally getting off my bum to post it ; )

The new "City Cross" is not a weather related name. Or is it? I dunno. Is it?

What was behind the weather related names of the Lighting, Blast, Firebolt et' al anyway?

The bikes were orginally named after Air Planes except for the Blast, due to Erik's love for aircraft.

The Blast's code name is P3 however which is a sub hunting plane so technicaly the Blast is named after a plane : )

Oh, yeah. Forgot it's a variation/submodel.

That's cool. Where did the weather thing come from? Or am I way out in left field...

Nope

Or even a boat
http://navysite.de/pboats/pc10.htm

I think the weather was just a coincidence.

http://www.wpafb.af.mil/cgi/search?.db=museum&.app=museum&path=%2Fmuseum&query=cyclone&search_option=or&submit=start+search

A search keeps focusing on the "Cyclone" engines, not a specific aircraft.

Notice the reference to both "Lightning" and "Thunderstorm 984" on the CityX timing cover.

Cyclone:

http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/0301.htm

And even *more* interestingly, something I came across when the Firebolt was first announced:

http://www.specialoperations.com/Navy/Patrol_Coastal/USS_Whirlwind.htm

So the firebolt is the new cyclone. Makes ya wonder what the new raw performance bike is gonna be.

quote:

Firebolt and Whirlwind are the 10th and 11th of 13 Cyclone class ships authorized by Congress. These ships are named for weather elements. No previous U.S. Navy ships have been named Firebolt.

So are we gonna see a Buell XB88 Whirlwind next year?

One of the few rare opportunities I've had to meet Erik Buell, during the Team Elves gathering at the factory in East Troy, I asked him what inspired the names of the various models of Buell motorcycles; was it severe weather or military aircraft or what? "No comment" was the answer. Being tenacious as I am, I tried to goad him into revealing the answer. The response was just a smile and another "no comment."

So for now, we remain.. Bad Weather Bikers. : )

Didn't Benelli make a tornado? I think they're making it again (inline 3 I believe).
