I might be having some unexpected problems with a transmission rebuild for my 05 XB12R, Pegasus.

I had sealed the case just fine. Then torqued the case just fine as well. Then torqued the output sprocket to 250 ft-lbs just fine with the correct tooling.
But the problem occurred when I was torquing the clutch hub to 75 ft-lbs.. there was a loud crack..

I felt like it had busted a shifter-fork in there.. but the damn thing is not shifting through the gears in any uniformity.
This had been a huge frustration that I have not touched the engine in over a month. But it needs to get up soon for the season.

The problem happened because I torqued the clutch hub through the gears with the output sprocket locking tool attached.
I didn't think I would have been a problem, but it was.

Should I have torqued the clutch hub after the clutch is installed in the basket? What's the proper procedure?

75 foot pounds doesn't seem like enough torque to actually break anything in there.

I mean the engine puts out about that amount of torque in stock trim, right?

Perhaps it's not assembled right inside?
There is really only one way to know unfortunately.

That's what I had thought too! The engine puts out 85 of torque at the crank and that is boosted through the primary gear as well!! Nothing should have popped in there.. but there is a definite shift problem.
