Ski,

Is that on the "new" engine or total on the bike?

Ski,
When you got a new engine, didn't you get a new swingarm also? I am getting a new engine, as mine self-destructed, and was curious about your situation.

Yes they had to also replace the swing arm & oil lines, they both had big chunks in it that they could not get out.

I hope I had chunks in mine. They said there was a lot of metal in the oil. New swingarm would be cool.

FireboltGeo is close to breaking 50,000 mi. on his '03 XB9R. It may happen before the first snowflakes fall.
Factory Race kitted original motor.
He doesn't have time to post this himself because he's out riding.
Mike.

This thread begs the question; is this Thunderstorm motor not reliable or are these problems rare?

I'm not a big fan of these kinds of discussions since there are so many factors in a person's life that controls how many miles they can/do ride.

The big thing is go for the quality, enjoy the rhythm of the road and the freedom that riding a motorcycle brings.

Bought the bike in question on Aug 31st, 2002. Today the odo is reading 42,223. It's got a race kit and I desnorkled it. Minor problems have occurred like the speedo sensor, plug wires and tons of tires.

The Buell is a great bike. Mine has been to the east coast on the NE Touring Adventure, to Arizona for the Torquefest, and to Boone this fall for the Running the Ridge Adventure. I look forward to the next BRAG trip in 2005.

By the way, I put 23,000 miles on a 2000 Lightning X1 before trading it on the XB9R and have a 2000 Harley Fatboy with 91,000 and still running.

Probably pretty rare problems. I just have bad luck I suppose.

Ski,

I'm flattered that you remember me. There were a lot of great people at that ride, as at all the BRAG Adventures.

Good luck with the new motor and overseas if you get shipped out. I hope we can share a few miles together some time.

I look forward to it George. And How could I forget you. You where the first person that spoke to us at Chosa's when we got there, plus you rode in from Ohio (my home State also) that really impressed us.

Ski,

Wouldn't it be interesting to see who could get to 100,000 miles on an XB Buell first? Would anyone care? Not an Iron Butt, but you would have to be close, wouldn't you? Unless, of course, you had upgraded to the custom seat.

You have a Firebolt, I have a Firebolt. Let's throw it open to folks riding Lightnings also -or- create a separate category for them if you prefer.

Come on Buellers, accept the challenge and race for the big 100K. If nothing else, you'll have some great bragging rights.

Shoot, there's only a handful of you that are close enough to take that challenge, come on, I want to see it. I'd take you up on it, but I know I'm not even close. Tell you what, I'll shoot for reaching that 10% mark by the time one of you reaches 100,000.

George,

I've pretty much said that, I wanted to be the first to reach 100k and do it before I retire from the Corps. I'm just going to have to do a lot more riding being that 1) You are already retired & 2) I'm not commuting 124 miles a day right now.
But either way I'm already committed to doing so.

P.S. I had the custom seat for about 3k and sold it. Like the stock seat better.
