Ok so I have a 2009 XB12R with a bad stator. Does anyone know for sure if a 2009 sportster stator will bolt up correctly. ( same bolt pattern and outside diameter to use with current XB rotor) I am not concerned about wire length because that is easy to mod. I can get the sportster stator for close to 90$ cheaper then a buell. I have heard the Buell is 30 amp single phase and Sportster is 32 amp single phase which is good for me. I am going with a sportster VR also. Has anyone gone this route or know of someone who has. Thank you.

Make sure the number of wires on the stator matches the number of wires on your current voltage regulator.

(And no Buell that I am aware of has ever been one phase...)

2008 I believe they went to single phase. If you look in the 2008 Buell electrical manual it states " The system is a single phase 30 amp system capable of 405
watts at 3000 rpm" And there are only 2 wires coming from the stator. All the plug connections match. I just need to know if the sportster stator has same bolt pattern and if any clearance issue. I have not been able to find any clarification on this. I was hoping someone here on Badweb has been thru this.

Thanks for the clarification.

If you go to a single phase stator, it should work, but you will need a matching single phase voltage regulator to be safe.

To elaborate on the information Brankin generously posted, 03-07 XBs are 3 phase 38 amp, whereas 08-10 XBS are single phase 32 amp. And as the bulletin mentions, the stator is effectively the same as the Sportster part, with only a change in wire length.

What Brankin was saying...

Damn! Did y'all see that? And my lips didn't even move...

Actually my post was solely intended to educate/correct Bill's:
(And no Buell that I am aware of has ever been one phase...)
Kind of an au contraire mon frère, here is your 'unicorn'.

The fact that it mentions being identical (minus wire lead lengths) to a Sportster - essentially answering the question posed by the OP - just happened to be a bonus. So, YAY! on that! I am honestly happy that it resolved to OP's question, however.

I guess I did presume it to be obvious to all that the '08-'10 setup is/was the same, i.e. that the info from the '08 Technical Forum would cover '08-'10, so I guess I was indeed 'saying' that
08-10 XBS are single phase 32 amp.

Honestly, I can't see anywhere that I made any mention of
03-07 XBs are 3 phase 38 amp. Hell, I don't know what they were. Yeah, I could research it and find out, but since I don't have one of those antiques it's not relevant to me nor - honestly - was it inquired about in this thread.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people adding to a thread with useful info. Just don't go around saying what you think someone was saying because this is the 2nd time that you were absolutely, dead wrong about something I posted! WTF?!?! Do I have a target on my back, Phelan? If so, why?

I guess in the future I will just let any inaccurate information I see go uncorrected so the 'fake news' epidemic expands into a 'fake facts' epidemic...

I am completely sorry that I tried to add to the discussion - it WILL happen less and less in the future!

I appreciate the correction Brankin. My O8 came with a fresh stator courtesy of Mike, an extended warranty, and a great Buell tech determined to make Mike a happy customer.

So I have a single phase stator on my 08XT, but haven't had to touch it yet.

(Didn't have to touch the 07 stator yet either, but that crank died instead : ( ).

I'm sorry if I offended you Brankin, as that is/was never my intention. I consider you a friend and consider your knowledge vast, and was merely trying to elaborate on the information provided, with the same intention of clarifying to Bill the differences in parts according to year. Bill has an older XB with the 3 phase setup so it is understandable that his knowledge is focused on that bike, as is it understandable that your knowledge is focused on the newer models. I shouldn'the have worded my post the way I did and I apologize for that.

I edited my above post to rectify the situation and to be more articulate.

Ok So it is confirmed. I installed a 2009 sportster stator and VR on the 2009 XB12r. The stator cable is longer then the Buells but the VR cables are shorter then the Buell. ais dilemma without cutting and soldering wires I ended up making a new bracket for the VR under the left air scoop. I think it might actually get more airflow to the VR plus Unblocks the front cylinder for more air.
