Hi

Can anyone tell me how much slack there should be in the primary chain of my 2002 xb9s.
Many thanks

Is there an aftermarket primary chain to Belt conversion kit out there?

I've not heard of one for the Buells.
Why would you want to do that any way?

Open primary perhaps?

Raraf,
Check at aftermarket shops and inquire about Sportster primary chain-belt conversions. Not sure if one will work on an XB though.

Open primary perhaps?
Is there an advantage to an open primary other than the cool factor?

Helps to keep the fringe trimmed off the bottom of leftside pants legs and keeps long shoelaces short.

wet clutch, and transmision oil bath are two good reasons to run a bullet proof tried and proven, low maintenance triple row primary chain.

I would think that the belt would cut down on lash and even be less maintenance. I was just curious. I should investigate more on why they make the kits. I have seen them on heavy duty torque monsters so I figure there cannot be too much of a draw back to them.

If one were to run an open primary on a Sportster or Buell, how do you propose to keep the transmission fluid inside the transmission?

tap the holes the fluid passes into the trans from the primary for a u-shaped metal transfer pipe. Fill the trans through the breather.
