I first found a cheap source for the spool itself from:http://www.rocketbracket.com/generic11.html The rod couplers and 3/8-16 threaded rod (zinc coated) was purchased from Home Depot. The 3/8-16 x 2" chrome bolts were purchased from the local motorcycle shop. I used a combination, on different parts of Loctite Red or Blue. I pieced all the parts together and got this product.

Looks nifty. Can they support any weight? Mark Never Give Up! |

I'm not using these spools to lift the rear end. At least that was not my intention. My greatest intention is to use them as sliders, worst case scenario of course. |

Looks good! Not to take away from the Dark Horse product (which looks great and I'll be purchasing), but just curious-what good are spools on the rear axle anyway? Generally you use a rear lift to remove the rear axle and wheel! xbolt12 |

BTW, My last question was about the Dark Horse product, not yours which is obviously (and as explained)not intended to lift the bike. xbolt12 |

xbolt12, Possibly if you had maintenance which required you to rotate the rear tire. Or if you are just cleaning the rear rim and want to rotate it. Not like we would use it to lubricate the drive belt or anything |

Hmmm, i use my rear stand when washing every week, also use it to stabilise the bike virtically while I jack the front off the ground... In fact i haven't had the need to remove the rear wheel in 6 months but have used my stand often... So spools would be nice. For the very rare occassion I'd use the stand to remove the rear wheel I guess I'd change the stand hangers from the forks over to the cradles... |

Trench, You mean your rear tire lasts 6 months?? Heh, Heh! Good point though on the other chores! I just hit 10,000 miles and I'm on my fourth rear tire - one year of ownership. xbolt12 |
