From MCN (September 7 2004):

BMWs have been rated the most reliable bikes on the road by owners taking part in a 10,000-rider survey for RiDE magazine.

What sucks is that Buell finished a distant #11. I'd give my right n*t to see a breakdown of the survey and see how many of the Buell respondents were riding pre-XB models.

It's interesting that Harley was #8 while Buell was #11. I find it hard to believe that Buells are less reliable than Harleys, but then I know very little about older Buells. I know that the Blast has been called the most reliable bike that Harley makes. Perhaps Blast owners don't subscribe to RIDE?

Why?
HD's are less stressed so the motors arent as abused so easily.

Oh yea..Yamaha made #3: D

These folks are smoking crack. We all had a good laugh about this survey over at Advrider.com, which is pretty well dominated by mostly BMW owners, as well as some KTM, Triumph, and Suzuki owners. Go read "GSpot" over there and tell me if you really believe the BMW's are that much better than everything else.

In addition to the Buell I currently own 3 BMW's and owned a 4th one until last year. Every one of them has had more problems than all of the 5 H-D products I've owned (3 Harleys, 2 Buells). My ownership experience might not be indicative of the overall reliability of the brands, but according to their statistics I should have had 1/4 more problems with the Buells than I did with the Beemers. Actually it's been the opposite.

Oh yea..Yamaha made #3

Dyna - The Buells seem simpler. That usually translates into more reliable. But apparently I am wrong.

High Horsepower low tech. Not a good combination.
Maybe I should have bought an FZ-1.
I got my Buell back Monday Night. Glad to have it back. Hope it well last longer. Only took a little over a MONTH.

There was an effort made this year by owners from ukbeg.com to get Buell into the chart. They need a minimum number of replies to include the brand. So yes, there was a fair few pre-XB riders who responded to the Ride survey. HTH.

Steve,

I checked out ukbeg.com and unless I'm missing something, I saw very little info regarding the XB line in the FAQs, etc. Most everything seems to pertain to the older Buell models. Any guess as to what kind of marketshare the XB has in the UK? Just based on what I see on ukbeg.com, it looks like the majority of UK Buells are older models.

On a side note, I'd like have seen the questions on the survey and a breakdown of the specific models of bikes represented. Given all that I've been reading about Harley's and Buell's reputation for quality in their newer products (especially Buell), something just doesn't add up here.

I would think the XB would be in the 5-7 hole if not higher if it was rated on its own.
