Does anyone have a copy of ECM Spy they could e-mail me? I pulled out my copy from 08' and its for windows XP...wont work on my Vista machine or Windows 7. PM's are broke so here is my e-mail thejuicer78@gmail.com . Thanks (I tried to do a TPS reset with ECMdroid but I must be missing something...couldn't get it to work.)

The old free ECMspy works on all versions of Windows from XP to 10, you may just need to run it as Administrator. To do that, right click the icon, then pick Run As Administrator

So I couldn't get ecm spy to connect, but I got ecmdroid to work. I'm having a problem resetting the tps...I can turn the idle knob and it adjusts the idle but won't change the tps value. However the tps value will change when I open the throttle...Any ideas?

Are you adjusting near the bottom? It only drops so much. You want to watch the voltage, whack the throttle a few times in the process, and turn it down until you can physically hear the butterfly tap the manifold on the return, to make sure 0% is fully closed.

The screw is in all the way, but when I back it off I have no degree reading at all. The degree only changes when I work the throttle. Am i missing somthing?

Seems that if the degrees change when you work the throttle, then the spy program is connected correctly and working.

Time to carefully inspect the idle adjust screw and cable. I'm guessing the housing is out of a bracket, or the cable is not connected to the idle screw, or not enough slack in the throttle cable(s) . . . ect. You get the idea.

Hope this helps, Dave

Those idle adjust cables are known to corrode and freeze up, and then break. If they are not moved a lot, then just like any other cable , they will give you grief.

I can see the idle adjuster moving. The throttle cables seem to have alot of slack in them, maybe that's part of the problem.

The throttle blade (butterfly) valve must be completely closed. (it doesn't matter what you are seeing on the ECM spy screen.) Sounds like you're there.

That full closed position will be registered to the ECM as ZERO.

From there set the idle at 6% then start the engine.
Warm the engine until the fan comes on (a short test ride will speed the warm up process), then adjust the idle speed to no more than 1100 rpm.
I set mine at 1050~1100 rpm.

I can find zero but I can't find 6% without the ecm spy readout. When I back out the adjuster nothing happens. The only time I get a tps responseis when I open the throttle.

Assuming you have, successfully, reset TPS to zero, will the engine start if you hold the throttle open a little?

The engine starts just fine and I have the idle adjusted to about 1000 rpm. If I try to roll on the throttle slow it bogs and dies. The plugs are black and the exhaust stinks so im sure it's running pretty fat. My intensions were to do a tps reset to see if that helped, and find a map for the pipe and open airbox.

So, if I understand, with the idle set at 1000 rpm you are not seeing any tps % or voltage, correct?

If that is the case, I'd say the tps is bad.

I can see tps voltage but no %, the only time the % changes is when I open or close the throttle.

That is weird, I've never seen one value without the other being present.
Not sure what that means.
I got nothing... sorry.

You might try calling Al @ American Sport Bike he might have an answer.

Is your butterfly shaft still in one piece? Have been known breakages of that shaft on 06's. Weird things go on when things aren't hooked up.

Update: the butterfly shaft is not broke. I cleaned up the throttle body (very dirty) and changed the throttle cables. Filled with good 91 fuel, I can get it to run but if I hold the idle at about 2000 rpm it dies. I cant get ECM spy to recognize the usb on my cpu and ECM droid connects via Bluetooth but im still having the same problem as above. Should I throw a tps sensor at it? If so whats a good replacement number? Its nice here and I cant ride the damn bike, its driving me nuts....any ideas?

It looks like a Mustang TPS works:

Update: Put a new TPS sensor on the bike Saturday and still no change. Bike will idle all day long but as soon as you give it any throttle it bogs and dies....

So you can see the butterfly move when you adjust the idle cable?

If so just back it off until you know it's closed and set zero to that.

could there be a wire shorted/open between the TPS and the ECM? I'm not an electronics guy so I can't help you figure out which one.

When the idle is set so it'll run at 1000 do you get both % and voltage readings in ECM droid?

Does ECM Droid have any known bugs relating to that?

I think it's important to note that really the ECM just sees voltage for zero. In theory you should be able to back the idle adjuster all the way out so the throttle closes (check visually etc...) and set that to zero.

Should be done.

Now... If the ECM isn't seeing percentage (As opposed to you not seeing it through ECM Droid) you may have a problem.

The voltage on the TPS doesn't go to zero, it should be a measurable amount at fully closed. It also shouldn't go to 5 volts either. When you set up a potentiometer for feedback, you always want to have a little movement left at the end of each range of motion. Otherwise you get deadband where you can move the device and not get a reading.

That said, I forget what the minimum and maximum vales are supposed to be, I would guess at around 1 volt to 4 volts through the 90 degrees of rotation, but it might be more like half a volt to 4.5 volts if they designed the pot. for short travel.

I think I got the tps reset this time. Bike will idle and I can hold the rpms anywhere over about 3k-3500 and it is fine. If I am under 3k-3500 it wants to choke and die. Holding the throttle at about 2500 rpm the engine will rev up and down sometimes it chokes and dies. Sagehawk is there a way to rule those sensors out?

Datalog for the clt. See how fan comes on and off when it needs to. Bout every few weeks, I'll see what ambient temp is outside, use a laser thermometer to check fuel tank temp. On ecmspy, I'll look at iat and clt sensor temps and see how close they are to ambient. Never the same, but within 6 or 8 degrees of each other. That only checks at ambient but if a sensor has shifted threshold it might show there. When hot, just imagine what it might be. My bike takes around 6 minutes in a datalog to hit 160° c . 2 minutes of idling and then I take off. It cools down really quick as fan draws off heat when shut off. Not a very scientific method, but some data over time will show what your bike patterns are.
