I had a lowside in gravel on Saturday. I am fine and there is some stuff I have to look at for the bike. What I wanted to show was how the frame pucks worked. This is the image after I got the bike home and many hands brushed the dust off the pucks, the dots are the permemant marks from the gravel. Figure a 25-30mph lowside. You will see the case in a moment   Case damage, that serious gouge is deeper then it looks. Not sure if I can use some Alumiweld to fill it and smooth it out or not. We will see.  The trans is stuck/jammed in 4th gear. I fried the clutch finishing the ride as well as found out the primary is leaking out the shifter opening. Once I can take the pirmary cover off and check it there I can better asses the situation. Physically I have a bruised shoulder and a bruise on my chest. I also have gravel scuff on my faceshield and helmet where I must have touched down before I stopped. My gear took the brunt of the gravel damage and the padding did its job. | ||

I look at the damage to the case and KNOW thats what the frame would have looked like. | ||

Glad your OK! Good gear pays off, I "tested" mine last year at Road America. Frame pucks worked well, mine had the same case damage, the complete sidecase, shifter, linkage, etc was all replaced. Heal up and your bike can be fixed when your better! How did you go down? Come up on un-expected gravel? | ||

I came over the top of a corner with an elevation change at the same time. The suspension was full compressed and I came off the top off the ground. Something didn't feel right so I was trying to slow down and pull off, at the same time I was trying to downshift when I realised the lever wasn't moving, I glanced down at the lever when I hit the gravel. The suspension was my fault, the shifter...I am really afraid that the trans locked in 4th for some reason, I am stuck cause I can't afford to have it looked at for diagnosis only ot have them tell me I have to pay for that out of pocket. I ended up riding the bike stuck in 4th another 50 miles or so with the last being an uphill canyon grade where traffic would slow me down to 5mph. So I know I have to pay for a new clutch out of my pocket. Its the transmission that has me worried. Even putting the largest vicegrips on the shifter rod you can't get it to change gears at the moment. | ||

Wycked: Where abouts are you located? Anywhere near the South West? I am sure with all the guys on here they would organize a weekend to help you figure out what's wrong with the bike.  | ||

I am in Phoenix, and it isn't so much a figureing out whats wrong, its weighing the options...do I try to get the trans warrentied since it did lock up beofer the lowside, or do I file with the insurance for it...or say screw it all and do it myself...and have the cases bored while its apart and blow it up to 1425...I just really won't know until I sit down and take a good look at it all. Who knows the lever may be just stuck for the moment and getting a real good leverage can free it. Until I can sit down and take the time to do so, that is where I am at. | ||

I'm glad to hear you're oke. Good to see the pucks are doing their job. I put mine on last week. Concerning the trans; I don't know how your relationship with the dealer is, but I'd say it should be covered under warranty. Personally, I wouldn't try and force it out of gear. I'm sure you've tried it all to get it out so I'd think that forcing it at this point would do more damage than good. I understand that's not what you wanna hear 'cos it means you need to split the cases ... Whatever you decide, I hope it works out good. Keep us posted oke? Ingemar. | ||

Given that was the side you went down on, perhaps the shift shaft is a little out of whack? Glad you're OK...protective gear (for you AND the bike) is always worth the money! | ||

The light scuffs on the helmet aren't too noticeble in the pics which is why I left it out. MAybe if I can slip something black behind the faceshield the mrks will photo better, may try that later today. | ||

Wycked was a helluva trooper that day! I had rode up from Tucson the night before (about 2hrs away) just for this ride. His lowside came on our first bit of twisties we hadn't ridden before. Lots of elevation changes and blind curves. I was running behind him and M1 when it happened. Since I'm not as fast as those two, I started falling back. By the time I had come up on the hill it was all over. Not a great feeling coming up over a hill and seeing one of your buddies' bikes in the gravel! Like the die hard he is, he continued through riding in 4th the whole way! Most guys would have packed it up...called for a truck and trailered it home. I know I would have! I'm still amazed... | ||

I just Dropped my brand new baby  2006 Buell making a u turn on a hill side.... Im a dumb ass. Time for me to get some Pucks..... at least it will cover up my scratches and new time protect. I lost a foot peg and the right turn light. I broke my brake lever but ok to ride it home  Good thing I know how you use my back break. I was in the hill with lots of curves. I learned a new skill on the way home.......... freak out with no front break hahahahahah . I was good... just worried on my 85 mile ride home. _ Kat...... yeah all the guys laughed at me |
