front sprocket comes stock on 1991 883 sportster, available from dennis kirk H840021. rear sprocket vortex racing part 827-50 (phone 800-440-3559. idler wheel is DAYCO 89005 stock idler on 1993 dodge diesel pickup. make up a .312" thick spacer to go behind front sprocket  | ||

Apart from those racing that need to change sprockets every track, what is the advantage on the street? | ||

None really, other than it is cheaper to replace a chain than a belt. The disadvantage for street use is that there is no cush drive in the rear wheel, so drive can be snatchy and chain wear high. You also have the mess caused by chain lube etc. For racing or track day use though you can't beat it. | ||

trojan i like your idler sprocket. looks much better than mine. do you sell the idler alone? also have you made an upper swingarm slider yet? i need one, may try to carve one out of UHMW-PE, unless you have them ready made? part numbers and/or prices please...thanks, dean | ||

That really is a nice setup. I assume adjustments are made with the idler? Fullpower - Is it snatchy at all as Trojan mentioned? | ||

no snatch... married too long. I get some vibration at cruising speeds, the upper run of drive chain gets an oscillation going, need to make a chain slider/rubbing block to restrict the lower half of the standing wave. the XB swingarm geometry is interesting in that the chain (or belt) tension is at a maximum when unladen. when bike is loaded the slack is increased. i do not want the complication of a second roller or idler, and dont think a spring loaded tensioning device will be reliable, so i think the upper slider will make the best and simplest solution. |
