Would the header bolt snapping off the engine case be covered under warranty. Mine broke off tonight as I tightened the flank on. I already had to replace the nuts once before. Anyone have this happen before?? | ||

If you did it yourself, highly doubtful. Yes, many people have done that. Get some good bit extractors and have fun. | ||

Coyote, Just out of curiosity, did you use a torque wrench or mechanic's feel when it broke? I'll be doing mine soon, that's why I'm asking. | ||

I didn't use a torque wrench. I think the replacement nut I use was probably lower quality than stock and it might have seized to the bolt. So when I turned it, it must have snapped. Does any one happen to know what part number that bolt might be? I'm hopping they have it in stock. | ||

Man good luck with that in stock bit. My local shop has to order 70% of the Buell parts. I don't really mind though. At least they can get 'em...just not right away. | ||

Chosa's actually did have the parts in stock. The hard part is getting the broken stud out of the head. I need to find a bit that will go through it to be able to use an extractor and pull it out. | ||

Dude! Mine did the same thing. It was hell! When I tried to extract it, the bolt extractor broke in there as well. Then I started to drill out the bolt and the bolt extractor and the drill bit broke in there as well. So at this point I needed to remove the header bolt, bolt extractor and the drill bit. Finally got it all out but the hole was all messed up. Tapped out the hole and threaded a titanium rod and threaded the rod into the cylinder. I then had to redrill the hole. It is solid now, but sucked! | ||

I sure am not making any progress with it and will probably end up doing what you did. Unfortunately, I am not that mechanically inclined so it takes me longer to do things like that.It's sucking big time right now because the price of gas my Silverado is bleeding me dry! I use the same amount in one day as I would on the Buell in one week ARGH!!! | ||

If you can find a Snap On dealer close by, they sell great extractors that fit in a 1/2 or 9/16 socket, and they also sell what basicly looks like left handed drill bits that are pretty good extractors as well. Good luck!  | ||

i have a fitting that fits over the other stud and in the ex chamber a bit w/ a drill guide and good drill bit to drill out the stud all except the threads. you then just tap out the remaining threads. i think i got it from drag speicalties. |
