I would say that is the main harness.

There is only one harness on the R models, assume the S is the same.

I might get a large connector pair, and some wire. Cut the harness back and put in the large connector. Put new wire on mating connector and run up to ecm. Buy new crimp pins for ecm connector and make the repair. Probably going to be in for $200+ this way, but cheaper than new harness. It does provide a new point for failure though.

Bike starting hesitating again today.

I put a multimeter on the diagnostic pins and found that one pin was transmitting voltage even after the bike was turned off. Is that normal?

Here is a video:

No, that is not normal. Once the run/stop switch is in stop, the ecm should shut the data down. The ecm is not actually off, the keep alive power is used to operate the fan.

I know that the diagnostic connector loses main power when in stop mode.

It's almost a blessing that my Buelltooth modem got fried, because otherwise this gremlin would have been much more difficult to grab.

So....new wiring harness?

Sounds like a big job, and I ain't giving it to no mechanic.

Not sure how big it really is, but you'll need little tiny hands unless you rotate the motor down. If you don't have a service manual, you really need to buy one.

I pulled off most of the tape around the ECM cables and the fuse box. I traced the diagnostic dongle cables. I could not visually see any wire that was damaged.

Then I removed my ECM.

With my battery connected, I turned on the power, and tested the pin slots on the ECM cables with my multimeter in DC. Some slots read ~5V, others read ~12.7 Volts, and others erratically read between 40-80 mV.

With the battery connected and power off, I would get readings of 0mV, 12.7V, and between -30mV and 80mV in different slots.

Is that normal?

I bet you can get 40 to 80 millivolts on your meter by holding the probes in the air, and rubbing a hand on the cables to create static.

Is that normal when testing? Some of the probes give me a definite 0, 5V, or 12V. Others give me fluctuating mV readings.

Sure. Some of those pins are inputs, not outputs.

What's a reading that would indicate a problematic wire?

No easy answer unless you go pin by pin and understand what the right value is supposed to be.

I've thought about doing that with a cheap scope on an idling bike to make a nice diagnostic guide. It actually wouldn't be that hard to do, but it would take some time.

So pretty much IDK what is wrong with my bike at this point.

There was 16mV and dropping on one of my pins on my diagnostic dongle with power off, that's probably not significant.

Still don't know why two consecutive Buelltooths stopped working. Just bought a 3rd Buelltooth, hopefully it will last long enough for me to do some tests.

Still don't know why I get gradual power fade.
