Would love to hear from folks who've tried both the Q3s and the Pilot Road series.

I *know* they're meant for different purposes, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on their strengths, weaknesses, etc.

What part?

Profile? Grip? How they feel while sliding? Characteristics when overly warm?

If you're not doing a lot of track days I'd use the Pilot Road series... They're quite good.

All aspects....I like to ride spiritedly on the road. I lean/put my knee down/enjoy corner carving...but I'm not a track day guy. JetLee recommended the Q3s - so I know they're good...very deliberate turn in and solid line. Seems that folks tend to describe the Pilot Roads as very quick to turn in...not sure about the line.

As a comparison, I've ridden Pilot Powers (uni-compound). That's a good tire, but I'm looking for a dual compound since I also do some commuting.

I've not tried the Q3on the Buell because it doesn't run and I've never had a Dunlop on the Buell that would allow trail braking.

The Q3 is amazing on my other bikes though. Quick warm up, great leaned over, grip for days, cheap, light. Almost perfect.

I gotta say though, I'd look at some Pirelli options. I've never found a company that suits the Buell like Pirelli. Their profile lends itself well to the geometry of the Buell and they just work great together.

That's helpful....

Since I have a pair of Q3s here - I'll use them next. Then report back.

At some point I'll probably go with the Roads and see how they do.

I'm fine for trying Pirelli, but not sure what's highly recommended from them (for the Bolt). I'd want something with some tread life that was rock solid in the corners.

I haven't noticed any difference between the pilot power I had and the pilot road I have now. I'm sure when pushed really hard the powers come into play, but so far I'm not experiencing anything lacking. I have the road 2, they didn't have the 3 in stock when I needed it.

Thanks again - I'm really wishing I'd just gone with the roads to start with at this point.

That being said, I'm sure the Q3's will be a nice, grippy ride - even if they wear out fairly quickly. I think I'll plan on the next set being the road 3s or 4s.

Awhile back I was looking to replace my pilot road 2CT's with another set of the same. I was having trouble finding them in the stock 170 rear tire size, so I wrote Michelin to ask if they were still being made. It took a couple weeks before I received a response but I was a bit surprised by the answer.

I told them I was very happy with the pilot road 2CT's performance in the wet, dry, and the good mileage I was getting from them.

They said that for my M2 cyclone I should be running the Pilot Power 2CT to get the same wet weather performance with better dry performance and I could expect the same life cycle I was getting on the pilot road 2CT's.

the "2CT" designation stands for dual compound. Note that the pilot power is available in both single and dual compound and some vendors list one or the other. Some vendors list both.

I was impatient and placed an order for pilot road 3 2CT before I got a response back from Michelin. So far I'm very happy with the road 3's, the front feels a bit more confident and the rear seems about the same as the 2's maybe a tad more grip.

However, my next set may very well end up being the pilot power 2 CT.

I'm quite pleased with the performance that I am getting from Q3s. I use the Q3s that I take off of my track bike. The edges of the rear tire are about 80% worn but they are fine over the rest of the tire. In that state, I get about 3000 miles of road use before I hit the wear bars. Front life is about double that of the rear.

Mark - thanks - that helps. I'm going to stick with the Q3s for a full run and then probably switch to the Pilot Road 3 or 4 tires at that point.
