so I recently purchased a factory race ecm. I went to do a tps reset on my bike and ecmspy indicated that it was a 2003 xb9 ecm. it has for race use only stamped on it and its missing the middle wire like I've seen in pictures of the race ecm. anyone know whats going on there?

ECMspy cannot accurately tell you what the ECM is, it can only read the firmware type, which is shared between several types of ECMs.

The XB9-specific DDFI-2 ECMs, race or stock, did not have the middle terminal. When the XB12 model was introduced, ECMs were populated with the middle AMC terminal.

At some point, Buell started using the DDFI-2 ECMs with AMC terminal on both XB9 and XB12 models and just loaded in the proper eeprom calibration depending on the target model.

So what are the numbers on your ECM's barcodes?

The 2003 race ecms were just regular ecm with different fuel and ignition maps, ecmspy can therefore reset the tps without issue.

Sometime in the delivery of real 2004 models did the middle wire appear in the xb9 ECM. I have #79. They were easily distinguished by wheel color being white. Mine was actually firmware GB231. Buell was still selling firmware CB060 Race ECM with the race kit quite a way into 2005. I flashed my GB231 with a data from a race GB231 and the data was near identical to the CB060.

Wheel color? As in the front/rear wheels?
