On September 22, I rode from Greensboro, NC to Statesville and Tilley's H-D for the Running The Ridge BRAG event. My 04 XB12S Lightning had the factory Dunlop tires with about 4500 miles on them. The rear tire was the 207 Dunlop. The tire was showing signs of heavy wear with the wear bars showing through. I knew that dyno's are bad on rear tires, so I had my XB12 dyno'd at Tilley's since I was going to purchase a new tire after the event. Friday, I was riding the Northern loop, and we stopped to get a bite to eat at the entry point to hwy 421. One of the riders asked me to come look at my rear tire. Low and behold, the tire cord was showing through on the center of the tire in places. So from that point on, I took it real easy and took the shortest route back to the Quality Inn in Boone. I called Cross Roads H-D in Wilksboro, and they had one tire. It was the newer Dunlop 208. After checking out early Saturday morning for the ride home, I stopped by Cross Roads H-D and had them to install the new 208. The maintenance manager brought my old 207 tire to me. I put my fingers on the tire. I bet there wasn't 0.040" of material left in the center of that tire. Had I tried to make it to Greensboro, I don't think I would have made it. Thank God Cross Roads had that 208. | ||

Lightning, my rear 207 was getting to the point of yours and I just put on a 208 on saturday. I'm happy with it so far. I'm taking it easy for a few more rides though....Odie | ||

Oh yea, I only got 2900 miles out of mine with mostly commuting and a few hard rides (mucho corners). | ||

Mine was shot at 2800 with almost no slab riding. The 207s seem to be a real short life tire. | ||

By the way, my dyno run at Tilley's showed 88.7 hp and 72.3 ft-lbs of torque. My XB12S is stock out of the crate. Lightning Strikes Now !!! | ||

We were actually on 88 when we showed you the cord coming through on your back tire. I told you you would be shocked at how much tire you had left. I thought you would be able to see light coming through the tire. Glad to hear you made it to the shop. We were a little worried about you. The 207 is thin from the beginning, that is why it is so light. | ||

You will enjoy the 208's. Remember to give them some break in time. Several posts on here concerning proper break in on new tires, and what happens if you push them before they are scrubbed in. Have fun, Eddie and Robin | ||

Rode my 208 hard today and very pleased with it. I think it may stick better than the 207. |
